OTA/Training Camp News

DeSean Jackson was on the field for practice Monday.

Jackson had been skipping OTAs to this point, forfeiting a $500,000 workout bonus along the way.

He is still owed $7.5 million in salary and bonuses in the final year of his deal. He will turn 30 in December.

What kind of knucklehead ego is required for a guy to pass up $500,000 for a week or so working out with his teammates just to prove to them , the coaches, owner and the fans that he can. I guess I've known some immature people who have let their egos do their wallet harm over the years but this kind of stuff is really stupid and Jackson isn't a guy or as we saw last season that is invincible. He has a real talent with his speed and and maybe even more impressive his ability to track and catch a deep ball so the Skins endure his effrontery but Jackson certainly draws on his goodwill account every year with this nonsense.

No kidding. Come to OTAs, and donate the money to charity, doofus.

My thought exactly when I saw that. And I wondered if he won't be kicking himself over it, say, five years after he retires.

Got to be honest. Jackson should blow past Dunbar. Dunbar would never cover Jackson (or any other speed receiver) in a game.

Still, I like that.

Redskins first-round WR Josh Doctson (Achilles) still isn't practicing.

He's sat out the last three weeks with a left Achilles injury. Doctson's lack of progress is a little concerning, though we're guessing the Redskins are just being extra-conservative with their top rookie. The real test for Doctson will come when training camp opens next month. If he's not ready by then, the Redskins may have a problem.

Why may the Redskins have a problem? The team has enough receivers. Are they implying the team failed to do its due diligence on Doctson's medicals before they drafted him?

Over-analyzing/nit picking. If he's out long term with an Achilles that is certainly problematic.

Hall's comment about Cousins - “He’s done a great job this offseason of really mastering the playbook,” Hall said. “I’m out there playing safety, he’s playing quarterback. He’s making checks, I’m making checks. We’re trying to play chess with each other, and Kirk somehow seems to always get his offense in the right position.”

Hall closed his effusive praise with Cousins with this.

“I mean, he’s just special,” Hall said. “He’s special, Jim.”

nice! Good call on the RB too.

You gotta think if there's any position for a surprise guy to break into the roster it would be running back.

I'm right so rarely I almost feel obligated to gloat the rare times I'm close.

I also keep hearing a ton of good things about Lloyd Carrington but defensive back is not a position of need so I'm not sure if there's room for him.

Been reading that too. Its insane to me how that DB position is suddenly looking deep. Gotta give McCloughan huge amounts of credit on that. We didn't bring in a Tracy Porter this year.

I heard Doc and BMitch talking this afternoon about how different the players on the D are looking this year. Their comment was that McCloughan clearly has a "type" of guy. BIG guys with long arms. BMitch said it reminded him of when the Patriots came here and how their guys looked!

Carrington might be in trouble. Apparently he posted a video of his interception online. Media rules prevent the media from posting video or even describing the plays in detail so I can't imagine the players are allowed to post such things.

But CSN already got ahold of it: http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/washingto ... o-minicamp

Another player to watch:

Dashaun Phillips

"He looks good and he’s taking advantage of this opportunity," Redskins secondary coach Perry Fewell said. "He jumped on that nickel spot, and he hasn’t turned it loose on anybody. When we go into the fall, it’ll be a battle, but right now he’s secured that position."

Get it, Crowder.

I don’t think that anyone kept stats but it seems to me that the leading receiver during OTAs and minicamp was Jamison Crowder. He caught a touchdown from Cousins and has generally caught anything thrown near him throughout the helmets and shorts phase of preparations.

Derek Carrier - TE - Redskins
Redskins TE Derek Carrier (knee) isn't expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Carrier tore his ACL and MCL in Week 14 last season and remains in question for the start of the season. It's possible he opens the year on reserve/PUP.
Source: Mike Jones on Twitter Jun 15 - 2:08 PM

Jordan Reed - TE - Redskins
Jordan Reed is sitting out minicamp after suffering an ankle injury last week.
It shouldn't affect Reed's camp status, but any injury news is unwelcome for a player with Reed's history. It's a reminder of the TE1's fragility. Signed to a five-year, $46.5 million extension last month, Reed has missed 14 games in three years, though he made a career-high 14 appearances in 2015.

Saw Dr Anderson today. He said my ankle injury was the worst he's ever seen. Was surprised by my progress. Maybe I'm not human
