Sign the check already and ask if it's enough! How about a better parking spot, no problem.

Awesome. Biggest risk here is his history with concussions; I don't know that he survives another 1-2 of them and keeps playing. But he is poised to be one of the league's best for years to come.

Love to see this stuff. Taking care of our young players. Its fine signing Josh Norman now and then, but being able to keep and reward our own guys is what we want to see.
The Washington Redskins and tight end Jordan Reed have reached an agreement on a multi-year deal, crossing off one of general manager Scot McCloughan’s remaining priorities for this year.
Reed, entering the final year of his rookie contract, agreed to a deal that will pay him in the $9 million to $10.5 million range per season over five years, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Still wondering about Cousins, signing him to a long term deal would free up some more cap space...We are max out right now, I know some after June 1st cuts are coming, we'll need it to sign the draft picks.

Wondering too. I'll be happy if they do agree to a deal just because I trust McCloughan. He won't make that type of deal unless he really believes in Cousins.
I kind of think that something could happen after OTAs. For the team, maybe Cousins comes in and looks even better than he did last year. Does anyone doubt he's been working his tail off this offseason to get ready?
For Cousins, maybe he comes into OTAs and sees what's going on with this team. Reed signed long term. Docston brought in. Seems to be a really good vibe with the team. Maybe he takes a look around and decides he's a little more willing to negotiate on that deal.
Guess we'll see.

It is interesting though re: Cousins v. Reed.
Both more or less have played one good year for the team. But isn't Reed actually the riskier move to sign to a LTD because of his injury history?

Great outside of Trent Williams he probably one of the most valuable on offense. Helped us win a few games and kept Kirk comfortable.

Nice think this had to be done. Now Kirk might be the main free agent next year. He's capable of being an elite offensive player. Think rookie money will be ok. Keep in mind with cap it's basically his new contract this year minus what he was already making

Deep thought from C00ley:
"Would either Jordan Reed or Kirk Cousins have gotten the deals they got without each other? "
Very possibly not.

IMO Cousins should play this season and hopefully show that he's worth a lot more .... or not
I could care less if he gets $25M+ next season - if he shows that he's that great, pay the man
Scot and this FO have a great feel for what each and every player is worth - if any player thinks that he should get whatever he's worth without regard for what that might mean to the rest of the guys on the roster, that has to play a part in the deal

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: Jordan Reed just got paid
With these contracts signings, the likelihood of Jackson AND Garcon being resigned after this year is getting lower and lower..... This signing is similar to Norman's in that it is only guaranteed for 2 years. Takes a little of the risk out, but with a player like Reed that hasn't lasted a full season, any risk is a big risk with him.
Regardless, in looking at the cap situation, it is being managed --- but there will be one or two casualties next season.

RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

No, that's a franchise tender. That's not a deal, because there was no negation process involved.

Re: Jordan Reed just got paid
The actual numbers on Reed's contract are very team friendly:
2016
Base salary: $1.25 million
Cap hit: $3,406,028
Note: His base salary is fully guaranteed. He receives a per-game roster bonus of $15,625 per game up to $250,000 – but he’ll only count $218,750 vs. the cap based on playing 14 games last season.
2017
Base salary: $3.75 million
Cap hit: $5.8 million
Note: His base salary is fully guaranteed, and he’ll receive the same per-game roster bonus up to $250,000. If, for some reason, the Redskins wanted to cut him, they’d save, at most, $250,000 with a post-June 1 designation.
2018
Base salary: $8.25 million
Cap hit: $10.3 million
Note: Same roster bonus as in previous seasons. If the Redskins cut him, they’d save $8.5 million with a post-June 1 designation ($4.9 million before that point). So while they could cut him if, say, he gets hurt, the savings wouldn’t be realized until late spring.
2019
Base salary: $7.671 million
Cap hit: $9.721 million
Note: Same per-game roster bonus. If the Redskins cut him before June 1, they’d save $6.121 million compared to $7.921 million after.
2020
Base salary: $8.25 million
Cap hit: $10.3 million
Note: Same per-game roster bonus. This is the first year where the Redskins could release him at anytime and realize the same savings: $8.5 million.
2021
Base salary: $8.75 million
Cap hit: $9 million
Note: Same per-game roster bonus. If the Redskins release him, they’d save $9 million regardless of the timing.

In-depth analysis of Reed's contract: http://overthecap.com/jordan-reed-contract-analytics/
Bottom line, the contract is good for Reed because he is very unlikely to overplay his salary, and the contract is good for the team because there is a lot of flexibility/options if they need to change things in the future.

This is seriously the stupidest thing I have ever read. Its a f***** deal. Here's the dictionary definition for you:
noun
An agreement entered into by two or more parties for their mutual benefit, especially in a business or political context: the band signed a major recording deal
noun
1. a business transaction
2. a bargain or arrangement for mutual advantage
Note that it does not read "a business transaction where a negotiation process was involved."
Was it really worth arguing such a stupid point and trying to split this completely meaningless hair? It literally had nothing to do with the original question that C00ley was asking.

You are the only one splitting that hair.

My original response was an honest question. I wasn't sure if there had been a deal reached with Cousins that Co0ley was reporting on. So, was it worth your time to come back with such a vitriolic reply?
