I hope that we let the guys go that the FO does not think we should keep but I do not want to bring in many free agents ... IF ANY AT ALL
we're not looking at just 2016 - this FO has their "eyes on the prize" and so far they've done incredibly well righting the ship
my motto is - let's get younger, bigger and deeper

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: NFL Free Agency - 2016
I agree, the Redskins need to get younger and bigger but based on last year, I expect to see a couple of additional free agents added to the mix.

Re: NFL Free Agency - 2016
We don't have a lot of choice. Still going to have to bring in some free agents this year, just too many holes to fill that can't all be addressed in a single draft.
Plug the holes with affordable guys for now. Keep building through the draft.

Lots of news coming out quickly, so might as well get it in one spot!

Knighton played pretty well last year for a good price, so I'm not sure what you're complaining about there. Culliver was our best CB even if he was injured for most of the year, and also someone who could easily be a starter on this team five years from the day we signed him.
We got Galette for a song, and chances are we'll be bringing him back because we were the team that gave him a chance. In the meantime, did you ever hear his name in the news? If he stays out of trouble, he's got a great shot at being an impact player here.
Hatcher was OK. Good player but didn't perform to the level we were paying him. He was also signed before the McCloughan era, of course, so I'm not sure how he's relevant to the discussion.
Goldson was a bust. We were desperate for a safety, it didn't work out. Oh well.
Anyway, I'm not sure what you're complaining about. McCloughan has done a good job in FA. We will be signing some veterans — every single NFL team does — because you can't field a team with the draft only, even if your philosophy is to build through the draft. Smart teams acquire veteran talent when it's a good value.
No draft picks required on any of those guys. And keep in mind that Hatcher was a BRUCE ALLEN move. That's the only one of those guys who came in on a dumb contract.
Totally agree on Knighton and Gallette. One year, low cost contracts to fill holes while we build through the draft. And I don't think Goldson was a bad signing either really. Brought some much needed leadership to the team last year - not much you can do about a guy getting injured.
Those are exactly the types of signings I expect to see again this month. It seems clear that GMSM isn't looking to hit home runs in free agency.

well put my friend - and how lucky are we that we have these guys in charge here right now?
have you seen what the NFL press is saying about the Titans, Eagles and Dolphins - these are the new "dumb and dumber" NFL franchises
Yeah man, I'm liking the approach. Just looks like sanity.

Re: Free Agency discussion
While I’m keeping one eye on free agency, the other eye is squarely on the Cousins negotiations.
With the price for Oswieler increasing to the 15-16 mil range and the Skins clearing cap room it make you wonder?? Going to be very interesting to see how GMSM plays this one!!

Re: Free Agency discussion
Any word on the reasons Miami ditched Brent Grimes? Has his play fallen off and should we be looking at him?
Re: Free Agency discussion
I'm thinking we'll sign 2 early and pricier FA's. Both will be younger...like, 25-27 (maybe a younger 28).
So far we've lost 2 DL, so we might have 3 NEW DL out of 6 -- so I don't see our FO saddling our coaches with 3 rookie DL. I'd bet we get a veteran (but not old) DL. Maybe Harrison, the NT from the Jets. 6'4" 350lbs and 27 years old.
We might also sign a veteran Safety, again, we've already cut two safeties. I'm thinking George Iloka...6'4" 225lbs and only 25. I doubt we'll go for Weddle, even though Barry knows him.
If we cut Culliver we'll sign another pricier and early FA CB with the savings we get from cutting him. If we don't cut him, I don't see a pricey CB getting signed.
Later in free agency we'll sign 4-5-6 more very reasonably priced guys.
I believe Scot will try to pick up a couple additional picks in the draft. That's where their focus is for sure.

The team is re-singing free agent signal-caller Colt McCoy to an one-year contract, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Tuesday, per a source informed of the team's moves. ESPN first reported the news.

Re: Free Agency discussion
I was really pleased - and a little surprised it happened - that we re-signed McCoy so quickly. Reading its like a 3 year deal with one voidable year.
If we learned anything watching other teams last year, its how important that backup QB position is. Very smart move IMO and good to not let him end up in Dallas too.
I see we re-signed Kedric Golston this morning too for another year. 11 years a Redskin. WOW.

Meh. I've got nothing against Colt McCoy but if he's playing we're screwed. I'd have probably gone with a 4th round draft pick. It worked out pretty well the last time.

lol. I don't remember you being such a negative poster. Off season got you down?
And I still expect the team to take a QB late in the draft.

Re: Free Agency discussion
The Redskins and ILB Mason Foster have reached an agreement on a two-year deal.
Compton has already re-signed right?

Yes...
Redskins linebackers Will Compton and Mason Foster became fast friends after Foster signed with Washington as a free agent last September. On the field, they played well together after injuries to Keenan Robinson and Perry Riley Jr. pushed both players into starting roles. Off the field, they hung out, grabbing sushi on Friday nights and playing video games.
Compton and Foster developed nicknames — “Wild Bill” and “Billy Mason” — for each other. Redskins left tackle Trent Williams, who has a locker between Compton and Foster, had his own nickname for the duo.
“They need their own TV show, man,” Williams told my colleague Master Tesfatsion in December. “Look at them, man. Beavis and Butt-Head.”
With Foster on an expiring deal, Beavis and Butt-Head’s future with the Redskins was uncertain entering free agency. On Monday, after ESPN’s John Keim tweeted that the Redskins were “working hard” to re-sign Foster, Compton, who signed a one-year tender to remain in D.C., joked that he would close the deal himself.
