Another reason to think that our team's quality is better than people are assuming: nobody else but the Giants had more likely-to-play personnel / starters miss time to injury.

I saw a lot of people giving the Patriots and Ravens (who were the two teams just above us) a lot of "credit" for dealing with injuries, but I don't remember many people at all saying that the Redskins were fighting through a similar issue.

Of course, I said "luck" in the title, but there is more to this than luck. Some teams do better in terms of physical training and programs to prevent injuries, particularly the soft tissue injuries like ACLs. (I do not think that the Redskins are one of those teams, unfortunately.) But we can hope for a regression toward the mean, if not a huge improvement, that would surely have a big impact on the quality of our roster come December.
