Spurrier Backs Shanahan On Snyder

Post by Burgundy&GoldForever »

“I don’t know what I could have done that much differently,” Spurrier said, via Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. “You know, I don’t want to get into a lot of details, but basically the two years that I was there, the second year we didn’t even pick the team. The owner and the personnel guy, whoever, the personnel guys, they picked the team. I couldn’t even pick the quarterback the second year. So I knew it wasn’t going to work, but that’s ok. I probably didn’t do a very good job, and the situation wasn’t what I was looking for, so it was time to move on.”

Anyone want to interview Marty Schottenheimer and see if he says the same thing? "Snyder and his 'Yes-Man' wouldn't let me do the job they hired me to do" is becoming a common theme among former Redskins head coaches.

Skinsjock was the only guy in here who didn't want to believe this because of his affinity to Griffin but eventually even SJ saw the light. Bad ownership makes for losing franchises and Snyder treats the Skins like his personal fantasy team.

Time will tell with SM in the front office whether Snyder lets him run the show or not or whether SM gets coopted like others before him. Maybe declining ticket demand has Snyder worried enough to really step out of the way but it probably depends on the results this season. If the Skins win 7+ plus SM gets to draft more big guys and do it his way but if it is less than that Snyder might decide to sell hope by drafting one of the top QBs.

Well, SJ did post about this saying he would have fired Spurrier too, but deleted it...... so I'm not so sure. I personally believe SJ still LOVES Danny boy. Historically, SJ has been quite the Danny apologist.

That aside, Danny boy is the WORST OWNER IN SPORTS. And it isn't close. His ego is literally off the charts.

I have hated the guy from the minute he acquired the team. I had inside/non-public information as to the acquisition process from two angles --- the legal side as well as having a family friend as one of the parties that made a bid (which didn't have a shot; they couldn't/wouldn't match the Snyder/Milstein bid). I will only say that Danny boy just isn't a good person in any respect.

When I think of Dan Snyder, the character Commodus from the movie Gladiator comes to mind. I find them to be very similar.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

When Snyder brought in Allen we were led to understand that Shanahan convinced Snyder that the franchise would be better off in the hands of NFL people - BS from Snyder
Snyder followed that up by hiring Shanahan and again we were led to believe that Allen and Shanahan were in charge here and were making all the player and coaching decisions - more BS from Snyder

I wanted to believe that we were finally headed in the right direction - Snyder has manipulated and hurt this franchise so badly it will take years to get back into having a consistent playoff contender - I am hopeful that Scot is in charge here but if he's not then it really does not matter ...

I am not sure there were 2 worse HCs for this franchise than Spurrier and Zorn but no HC can make this franchise be successful if Snyder is interfering - Shanahan had no chance with Snyder interfering ...

I am not sorry that we brought Griffin in here or that we gave up a bunch of draft picks - with Snyder making the picks they would have sucked anyway - I am sorry that he was not even close to being ready to read defenses or to recognize what was happening on the field - unfortunately, it seems there was pressure from Snyder to start him immediately and 2012 happened - the kid has never recovered and that is all on Snyder

I don't know if RG3 can make it as a QB but I'm sure that if he can Scot will find the way to make that happen - at least I hope so
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Actually, Marty fired Vinny, and didn't let Danny make any decisions, which is why he got fired. And Spurrier can suck it! When he says it wasn't the right place for him, he means the NFL. That guy was in way over his head.

No kidding. Thats why I was against bringing in Spurious; especially when we already had a coach who was building something.

I still believe that was the single worst move Snyder ever made. Firing Marty and what followed set this franchise back a decade+. You can just see the cascade of bad events that were triggered.

For what reason does anyone bring this up?

Ok, Synder was (and probably still is) a control freak...

Spurrier thought he could work 4 hours a day, golf for 6 and go home...He was the dud.

Enough of that old news.

But it's not old news... People said it was old news after Norv... After Marty... After Zorn... After Mike...

What's getting old is the fact that this fanbase is in denial.

It only came up because Spurrier was asked about the Skins in a recent press conference for some reason. Don't go nuts.

Dude, you asked "For what reason does anyone bring this up? " and I answered the question. I didn't really mean anything in particular when I wrote "don't go nuts" and definitely didn't mean anything personal.

Sorry if I struck a nerve. Good freaking grief.

Oh, goody. I was wondering what the guy who put in 7-hour work days and practiced his golf swing during practice had to say.

+1 - I mean that stuff is just so much ado about nothing - it's way in the past - this franchise has been a huge disappointment to so many that only have a limited time to be able to contribute ... all that matters now is that Scot is holding everyone accountable

if you want to be a part of this franchise going forward, you have to earn it, each and every practice and each and every game ...

Scot has an idea who can help this franchise and those are his keepers - the rest will be a part of history, just like Steve and Mike ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

The same thing a lot of fans have to say. Our owner sucks.

Surprising that any reporter remembers that Spurrier once coached the Redskins.
