Is This The Lowest You've Ever Felt As A Skins Fan?

Post by OldSchool »

For me this is absolutely the most pessimistic I’ve ever felt about the Skins. We’ve experienced many low ebbs with Snyder but hope is very hardy and persistent, the tiniest bit of nourishment can give it fresh life in me but this year has been the worse. Last year was awful because in my opinion the Skin’s tossed a whole year and a coaching staff away playing a QB that wasn’t physically or mentally ready to play. After that I didn’t renew my season tickets but I tuned in again this year to watch and suffered with the rest of you.

We had a new coach and that was enough to produce fresh shoots of hope. Even the sorry play of Griffin during the preseason games didn’t arrest my hope because Cousins was doing well and maybe just maybe a new coach would make a change if the difference was great enough. Griffin’s injury gave Cousins a chance and he looked able to exploit the opportunity at first. He played well in his first games and gave me fresh hope until he imploded with his last interception fest. I was nearly at rock bottom by the time Gruden benched Griffin but the fact that he was allowed to bench Griffin provided me some small measure of encouragement. Keeping Griffin or keeping Gruden is the question being posed now by some, I wish I just didn’t care. Feeling this way may be the precursor to not caring, this is the lowest I’ve ever gotten about the Skins. Is this the worse for you too?

I had high hopes.. but they were quickly tempered at first sight of this oline trying to block vs Hou.. The secondary and line play were expected to be poor w out any real substantial upgrades. I was surprised young Breeland stepped up so big, but not when he makes those rookie mistakes.

The bitterest part for me was the decline of Alfred Morris.. hes been getting blown up behind the los, and maybe leads the league in YAContact- bit doesnt give me that top three ammunition this year. Since the boasting and churching up of the squad is usually vs fellow nfce fans its particularly rough since i cant even make a case for him to be any of their equalls- and surely wont make the probowl.

There is always hope- its what comes with being a redskins fan.. looking fwd to acquisitions, seeing players return to health, and what develops on both sides of the ball with a solid draft. Its hard to thinkbof these team turning it around next year, but once camp starts and I learn some names ill be back on the 19-0 tip until proven otherwise. .

There is much work to be done and I have resolved myself to the fact that this turn around could take a few years. RGIII never got his feet under him, the o line is horrible and this was Gruden's first year as coach. I just want to see progress and it starts the day after this season ends. Is Haslett gone?. Do they hire a real GM? Who are they targeting in the draft? etc.

Tough question. I still feel like 2013 was a worse year because of the mess with Shanahan. But as far as feeling low, yeah it might be. I don't care what changes are made in the offseason, what players we draft, what free agents we sign. Its hard to imagine we can do enough to be that much better anytime soon.

I felt worse in Spurrier's second year and during Zorn's tenure.

Right before we got rid of Vinnie, I came to the conclusion that the only way we would were if we completely sucked. I then looked at the TV and the Raiders were at our goal line. They scored, I pumped my fist, and said "Yes!"

This was the lowest I've ever felt as a Skins fan.

I am almost back there.

I was just thinking that I feel about as I did during Zorn. Which is not good.

it's all relative and it's absolutely not at all good to be a Redskins fan ..

what a shame that it comes to this at the end of each year

and

then we go through 8 months of rationalizing how it's really not going to be too bad the next season

this is what it is to be a Redskins fan with Dan Snyder's constant desire to be responsible for making our franchise great again

we'll hear about how it's all going to be different and then it's all the same BS

thanks Dan ... thanks for nothing, again
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Amazing that this Saturday's game is the first one I wont be watching since 1968. I just don't care about Dan Snyder, Bruce Allen, Jay Gruden, or this team at all. Dan Snyder managed to beat half a century of dedication out of me in a bit over a decade. Now if I can just get another 100,000 fans to follow me out of the exits. I would actually enjoy hearing about a Redskins game being played in a completely empty stadium ... though that will never happen ... it will be filled from the opposing teams fans. Maybe the 2015 schedule should show 16 away games.

there are only 2 games on this Saturday ...

I cannot imagine not watching a Redskins game in December when it's the only game that's on and it's a divisional game

Yeah I'm not a fan of Dan Snyder or Bruce Allen, I'm a fan of the Washington Redskins and always will be. I'll be watching.

I always look at it this way: as low as we are right now, there will be a day when we're back on top. I don't know how it will happen exactly, but sooner or later things will swing our way again even if its by sheer dumb luck. You'll see the DC bandwagon back in full effect of course. For the fans who endured THIS brutal stretch, it couldn't possibly be sweeter.

I totally agree. The swinging gate was one of the lowest and actually funniest moments for me.

Spurriers tenure was just pure misery. At least I got to laugh at some things during Zorns time.

This is not a pleasant time in Redskins history... But, not the worst.

Not even close to the lowest.

Think of the late '50s and early '60s. The all-white "flagship of segregation" teams. Jim Brown "integrating" the Redskin endzone. Ralph Guglielmi...I think the "year of the Goog" was the worst ever. Draft after draft by George Preston Marshall picking halfbacks and fullbacks. Releasing Dick "Little Mo" Modelewski to become star DT for the Giants. The season when the high point was a tie against the Giants. Norm Snead's rookie season when the entire offense was Snead-to-Dugan, Fred Dugan, a split end with great hands but not much speed. The next season, when the entire offense was Snead throwing 80 yards to Bobby Mitchell.

Not to mention last years record was worse, AND we were swept by the entire division.
Beating Philthy and Dullass this year is a big "victory" for the first year HC.. sweeping Dullass would be the sweetest of all, especially if it means they go home for the playoffs.. AGAIN.

I think there is some hope for encouragement next year if we finish BOTH games strong. Still, I fear plenty of controversy on positions and media next year. Hopefully they can Haslett tho! We all thought he was going to be gone last offseason and that didn't happen. Nothing can be assumed.

The first 8 games under Zorn actually felt pretty darned good, if I remember correctly. We were rid of Spurrier, our record sat at 6-2, we were in first place, and he had them doing "Three cheers for the Redskins" in the locker room, a la George Allen. Then the wheels came off. #-o

You're right JSPB - lately it seems we've had glimpses of what might be and then reality comes back with a vengeance ...

we have not had a team that you could count on or that would do anything they could to win

and it has affected how we feel about them - I'm hopeful but this past 15 years has been just a huge disappointment
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

put simply YES ..... we are the laughing stock of the NFC EAST if not the entire NFL ..... it is depressing to support such a mess up until this point .... im no debating if i should get the ticket this year .... i have had it for 15 years haven't missed a game until this year when i stopped watching at week 13 .... couldn't take it any more !!!!
i still think we are at least 3 years away from being a consistent winner one year or there doesn't prove anything IMO .... not feeling we will win more than 7 games this year and thats asking alot from this team that need ALOT of talented football players that can impact the game on a week to week basis.
TOUCHDOWN .....WASHINGTON REDSKINS !!!!
