Re: Head coaches who call plays
Personally I'd like to know what a coach is doing when his offense is on the field that is more important than the play calling. What in the world is "game management"?

I would think that Jay Gruden is most likely going to call plays at first - unless he thinks that Sean McVay is better suited to it - no big deal
I'm looking forward to watching these 2 guys put together a really good offense

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Sean Payton does it for the Saints, and has been pretty successful.

Does Jason Garrett still do it? Their playcalling seems just as atrocious as it was when he was OC.

Packers’ Mike McCarthy, Saints’ Sean Payton, Bears’ Marc Trestman, Texans' Gary Kubiak (gone), Chiefs’ Andy Reid, Giants' Tom Coughlin, Seahawks’ Pete Carroll.
Joe Gibbs did it.

Glad we didn't go hire shehawks OC. I heard he had a lot of help, but he also did well elsewhere. I was up in the air about it. I am liking our hire more and more.

I think Saunders was to be a transition. Same basic approach to the offense; different terminology; Saunders would stay after Gibbs retired following the 2007 season (as planned, anyway).
Incidentally, it was considered unorthodox that Paul Brown called plays for the Browns, using their "shuttling guards". Browns QB Milt Plum was considered second-rate because he could not call the plays. I think Sonny Jurgensen drove George Allen crazy (or crazier) by calling his own plays.

I think what drove George crazy was that Sonny was a much better play caller...welch wrote:Deadskins wrote:DarthMonk wrote:Joe Gibbs did it.
