Samuels and picks
Samuels is not going to be traded. Think of it would you trade Samuels and Taylor or Winslow for Robert Gallery. Especially when one can wait until next year when he makes the pro bowl and his stock goes up. Than we can trade him straight up for a top 10 pick. What do you all think?

in the mood for cap reality? samuels stays.... this year. but next year is a different story. if he does make the pro bowl, his stock is that much higher....so is his contract if we want to re-sign him. therefore he'd make good trade bait. question is, would any other club put up the $$$ needed to make a trade work? a lot of the reason there has been no renegotiation at this point, is, he's done that. renegotiating his current deal is not an option. we may free up some $$$ THIS YEAR. but next year it would make his cap figure that much higher. the only logical cap relief samuels could offer would be to sign a long term deal, and i'm not so sure the front office is ready to fork over the money that samuels will want, considering his overall play the last couple years.

Hopefully all of this talk about trading Samuels is just some good old Washington DC politics. The more media coverage we can get about trading Samuels and wanting Gallery the better. I truly beleive the front office has no real intention of trading Samuels this year and is simply trying to mislead other teams as to what we are going to do in the draft. We are going to draft a defensive player, probably Sean Taylor. In no way would we be helping the team financailly or on the field by trading Samuels to potentially move up three slots in the draft. This whole thing is just so illogical it is incredible. Besides my faith is with Daniel Snyder on this one, if there is one thing you can't call him it is cheap. Daniel Snyder would never try and save money and hurt the teams' chances of winning. He and the front office realize that we need to use our 5th overall pick on the defensive side of the ball and do whatever coach Gibbs feels is neccessary to return the franchise to glory. Manfreda is right, if we do trade Samuels it will be next year when the cap hit would be much less and when we can use him to move up in the draft after we go at least 10-6 this year.

Do you think all of this talk about Samuels to Oakland might be a smoke screen to make the Giants trade with San Diego for their #1 pick? If the Giants did that, would that really hurt them more or help them more?

I just posted the some thing on another thread.
I think that this is posturing to get the Giants to either give up trying, or to put up more than they have to. Draft time rumor warfare don't cost nothing!
