Dexter Calls Aikman a Queer
WASHINGTON - Former Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley spoke with WTOP anchors Mike Moss and Bruce Alan Monday morning after the team's stunning defeat in Denver.
After exchanging a few jokes and game analysis, Manley made a disparaging remark about former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman.
When asked if Aikman jinxed Sunday's game by providing color commentary, Manley used a derogatory term.
"I think Troy Aikman's a queer," he said.
Moss and Alan immediately reacted to the slur.
"We don't want to go there," Moss said.
"Ok, I'm sorry about that," Manley said.
"Now, you want to apologize to him?" asked Moss.
"No," Manley said.
"You don't?" Moss asked.
"I'll just say, 'I take that back,'" Manley said.
Despite Manley's reputation for making off-color remarks -- earlier in the segment he joked about mistreating his wife and kicking his dog -- reactions rippled through the sports and LGBT communities.
"You just don't expect that language in any professional environment, whether it's in a radio station or in a professional sports locker room," said Cyd Zeigler, co-founder of Outsports.com.
"These guys are professionals. They are adults. Most of them know gay people [and] have gay family members."

Re: Dexter Calls Aikman a Queer
Considering all the other things he could have called him... I'm good w it. Queer is the nicest way to say it actually... And doesn't mean anything about sexual connotation.. a lot nicer then what I call him every Sunday!!! The world is such a sensitive place nowadays it makes me sick!

I knew Dexter and it don't surprise me that he said that. He likes the 'shock' effect. He also didn't know Kyles' name, it isn't that he forgot, he just didn't know it.

Re: Dexter Calls Aikman a Queer
I think it is retarded that you can't call someone queer anymore:)
The Flintstones would no longerbe allowed to sing about having "a gay old time!"
From what I understand, blowing a fag (in the UK) could lead to cancer or knocking someone up there doesn't result in a positive pregnancy test.
Sometimes calling someone queer isn't really meant to be insulting to all the homos and lesbians out there.

Well... if "pc" stands for "puckery citrus" (heh, heh, heh), you'd be right... but, yeah... I miss the old days too... when the Redskins didn't use hype... they just told it like it was going to be with their play... then added the commentary.

I doubt Dexter meant that he thought Aikman was "odd".

I don't know, I think he is odd, but I wasn't even referring to that. If I call someone a fag on the court or call him queer, it doesn't mean I think he is a sausage smuggler and I’m not trying to offend the types of people that like people of the same sex. Kobby certainly didn’t think that the ref he called a fag liked men, but he was just trying to chive him on and should not have had to apologize.
People aren’t trying to offend the Irish when they call a police van a Paddy wagon and they aren’t intending to offend the Japanese when the call an imported car a rice burner. Both of those could be offensive, but that isn’t the intent.
Dexter you keep calling Gaikman queer! I’m in your corner.

It was meant to be light hearted and maybe a bit insensitive, but the point is sound.

Re: Dexter Calls Aikman a Queer
I thought it was very funny myself. I can't speak for him, but if I had to guess I would think, never take Dexter seriously in these matters. I know Dexter from way back. Long before he got in trouble. No, I wont divulge. It isn't fair to either one of us. He has always been a good guy. He always signed autographs for the kids and he was great with us. He is and was charismatic.
