Kenechi Udeze at #5?
Latest SI Mock Draft has us taking DE Kenechi Udeze at the 5 spot. I'm sick of all this hearsay! Bring on the real draft. Who's going to the FedEX draft party? Here's the link...

VERY unlikely. When it comes to mock drafts you have to factor player talent and team needs.
Nobody is going to use a #5 overall pick when there is talent like:
Manning
Fitzgerald
Gallery
Winslow
Taylor
Udeze will be available...no doubt...from 7th-10th. If the Skins pick Udeze it will mean they traded down...but Jacksonville is likely to grab him at #9 since DE is a huge need for them.
Lets just hope the Skins pick up Taylor and he becomes and instant PLAYMAKER...or they trade down and make some very smart decisions (not like the Cardinals...last year the Cards could have had Terrell Suggs and traded down and got Calvin Pace and Bryant Jonhson and neither of those are really starters yet).
Ultimate trade would be giving up the number 5 pick for New England's 2 late firt round picks and our 5th rounder for their 4th.
Then we could address DLine and get TE Ben Troupe...and maybe find a way to get Safety Sean Jones from Georgia.

I agree on Taylor. Also, of all the trading down ideas, yours makes the most sense to me. Ben Troupe is a beast of a TE from the games I watched him in at UofF. That way we can address the line and other Dneeds as well. Unless something crazy happens, I have a strong feeling we'll stick with the #5 pick. We shall see.
Thanks for the insight - good stuff!

I'm with you 666. Udeze should be the pick. He is an every down DE and not a "specialist" who can get to the QB. Remember, putting pressure on the qb will make our secondary that much better. Blitzing every down will eventually get you burned. You need the big boys up front to dictate what the Offense can do. This is Gibbs belief on the other side of the ball. The Hogs opening up holes and giving the QB time is what wins games. We always point to Gibbs winning 3 SB's with 3 diffrent QB's but he also won it with 3 diffrent RB's and almost entirely diffrent WR tandums also. None of them were dominant players at their positions during the season or their careers. It is Gibbs philosophy and game plans that won the Lombardi trophy for us and it all starts at winning at the line of scrimmage.

Taylor may be the better overall tallent 777 but a D-line player is more valuable because they can disrupt the passing game and the running game (much more than a safety can). I would prefer to trade down and possibly get a DT like Starks from Maryland AND a Safety like Will Allen from Ohio State but we would have to make a trade with NE and they really want to move up and get Jackson, the RB from Oregon.

This is my opinion. I know I have typed this a hundred times. If there was a Julius Peppers in the draft I would agree with you. There isn't. Udeze had good numbers but from what I've read, he played against weak O-lines and was on a really good D-line, so he had help with his DTs. You have to go with Taylor. But it's up th Gibbs and Williams. Whatever they think is best I'll except.njskinsfan wrote:Taylor may be the better overall tallent 777 but a D-line player is more valuable because they can disrupt the passing game and the running game (much more than a safety can). Highly unlikely - to extremely unlikely. With teams on the move like the Browns, Eagles, Patriots and Steelers - teams confused - like the Chargers and the Giants - and teams with many needs like the Raiders and Cards - my be is many, many moves in the first round - especailly near the top of the draft. After the first two to three rounds - I see this as a relatively light draft.
