Who will be our H Back. The H Back is a Huge part of Our Offense so we cant just put anyone in that slot.We need a player with Speed enough to get by LBs and Safteys. Very reliable Hands, and the blocking to Blast Holes for Clinton Portis.

Right now it looks like Mike Sellars, but I think we will address the position in the draft. It might be Kellen Winslow, or more we might take one later in the draft. Regardless, I don't think next year's starter is on our roster yet...

I just went there, looked, realized my mistake, and deleted the post before you said that Steve.

You mean Fullback! Our Halfback (H-back) is obviously Clinton Portis! Our fullback will be Mike Sellers or Rock Cartright! I think Rock will get the Nod! I love Rock he is a great blocker and decent bruiser FB!

H-Back and Halfback are a little different, see:

No. I mean H-Back. A Halfback is you feature Running Back also known as a Tailback.

An H Back is a combination of a Fullback and a Tight End. He will sometimes line up in the backfield as a fullback, and Blast a whole for the RB. And sometimes he will line up as the Tight End and go out on routes.

When you think H-back, you think Frank Wycheck (although he is basically a tight end now). He is far and away the best H-back of the last decade, as far as I am concerned...

Man, I just don't think that's what an h-back is anymore.

Totally agree that it used to be, but now it's just become another synonym for a running back, and more often than not, the backs they are referring to are definitely not your late 80's prototypical hybrid back.

Well obviously some of us disagree about what a H-back is!

Also you guys are forgetting to mention Ladell Betts. I think he gets overlooked! I know he was hurt last year but he is a young bruiser FB and he defintely showed some great signs lat year! I think he will be a great change of pace back for us!

H-back in Joe Gibbs system is not a halfback or a fullback, the H-back is a hybrid TE/FB like Redskinfan 16-0 or 0-16 said. Most of the time the H-back is in motion from one side of the line to the other but he also lines up as a 2nd TE or as a FB. He will almost never recieve a handoff but will go out for passes.

If I remember correctly Gibbs offense is called the one-back offense and that back is called the runningback.

If we have anyone like Don Warren on this team, I would think it would be Chamberlain. If that boy gets in shape, we'll have a good one too. He can block and catch and is not a small man.

Put another big TE out there on the end of the line and you have some serious beef to hit the defenders with.

Which is why we don't need Winslow who is primarily a receiver, has been seen to chafe when he wasn't thrown the ball, and didn't like it when he was asked to block more than receive if I remember some of the interviews I heard with him in them...

Man I just get warm all over thinking of that heavy jumbo package rumbling down the field stomping linebackers and defensive backs...

Chamberlin is more of a receiving tight end. He does not block that well. Rasby would be the safest bet if your talking about blocking. But he cant catch a cold.

That is why I am for K2. Yeah he is a receiving tight End. But he is also a very solid blocker.

I have heard the opposite of Chamberlain's blocking skills and Winslow was reputed to be a decent blocker until he got tweaked about not getting passes - then he would start pouting... but that is just rumors too....

I still say the DL is the ugliest, largest hole we have on our team - the TE situation is not anywhere near as ugly.

the way i see this whole thing unfolding is the skins picking up taylor in the draft (it is often said that a team should take the best player available-won't taylor most likely be the best player available at no. 5?), pick up a decent dtackle or end at 12:03 am on june first, and make do at the h-back spot with the guys we have. h-back by commitee, if you will. maybe spurrier can come back and be the h-back coach, since he was so good at spreading playing time around.

Who plays the position seems like an open question. Among the certainties:

- Coach Gibbs has given it a lot of thought, and has "read" through miles of film/tape/whatever they now use

- The staff looked hard at what they saw in the mini-camp

- Joe Gibbs will not tell us what he's planning. Gibbs uses interviews to praise his players, and to lull the opponents, but never to give hard information. Just wait till Kornheiser digs out his old parodies of a Joe Gibbs mid-week interview!

- The position requires a tough blocker who can catch passes. If Winslow wants to be a WR, and nothing else, they won't pick him. It's not a position for a guy who counts his receptions

- The H-back does not run the ball except on a variety of the end-around...not part of the job description

I doubt Spurrier has ever even heard the term "H-back"; it's not exactly a Fun 'N Gun position...

I think Winslow would be an amazing H-back, and I am drooling over the potential plays we could run with such a talented athelete at that position. However, I really don't think Winslow wants to come here because he thinks all he would do is block. That's ridiculous, of course. You don't win three Super Bowls by wasting a player like Winslow's recieviing abilities.

Right now, I think only Sellars has the potential to play the H-back spot, and I am definetly not sold on him. If we don't pick someone up in the late rounds of the draft, we'll do it via free agency...

Mike Sellers seem to be the man for the job right now Winslow will need to Mature before he can even understand the postion (He just wants the Ball) but Ben Trope would be a good fit he we where drafting alot lower in the first round but not at # 5

Winslow has been rumored to have picked the Poston's as his agent and I believe I heard that he was also charging agents to talk to him. Sounds like he's just after the almighty dollar. Take that and his behavior on the sidelines and in interviews last season and I don't believe he's Joe's idea of Redskins material.

I like Chamberlain at the position if he trims down. And Rasby at least dropped way fewer balls thrown at him than Zeron "Stonehands" Flemister.

There will be plenty of undrafted TE's like a Thomas Hill 6'-5" 260lbs from Kansas State or FB's like Paul Jefferson 6'-1" 260lbs from Penn State ( I hate Penn State ) that we can scoop up after the draft. I think we are fine at both TE and FB this year but we can always carry one UFA on the practice squad if our scouts like someone.
Remember we have Robert Royal who might be a factor if he can stay healthy.

Or we could resign Stephen Alexander who was released from SD as long as we are reuniting ex-skins....... this last one was a joke if no one could tell. :>)

I don't think Chamberlin is right for the position. Sellars looks promising, but he was in Canada last year for crying out loud. If we draft Winslow, you can bet he steps right in. My bet is we draft someone in a later round (fifth) who is a tweener at the fullback and tight end position and can step in perfectly at H-back. It's really too bad we missed out on Kleinsasser...
