Keith Burns is new Special Teams coach

Post by andyjens89 »

Keith Burns became the Washington Redskins' new special teams coach Monday, according to a source who requested anonymity because the team did not announce the move.

Burns played linebacker for the Denver Broncos in three separate stints totaling 11 seasons, 10 of which were when current Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was the head coach there. He won two Super Bowls in Denver.

Burns, 40, also served as a special teams assistant on Shanahan's Denver staff from 2007-08, Shanahan's final two seasons there.

He survived two head coaching changes in Denver and was the Broncos' assistant special teams coach for the last two seasons.

Burns is a graduate of T.C. Williams High in Alexandria.

He replaces Danny Smith, who after nine seasons with the Redskins left last month to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers' special teams.
