THE GOLDEN HOGS - 2012 THN PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Post by SouthLondonRedskin »

Hi guys,

This is the time to do our player of the year voting, the week before the SB. For those that are new here, at the end of every season everyone on here has the chance to say thanks to the best performers of the season in the B&G. (It's a tradition that goes back, oh, for like a year now!)

Not many rules just remember, this is a Redskins thing so Redskins only in your responses please.

Voting ends at the end of February, winners announced soon after, so you have time to really think about your selections and debate any you're not 100% on. Although to be fair it shouldn't be too hard to pick some winners after the season a couple of our newer players just had!

The Categories

PLAYER OF THE SEASON: Please vote for your overall Player of the Year for the season.

(Last year's winner: London Fletcher)

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE SEASON: If you overall player of the season plays on offense then choose someone different here.

(Last year's winner: Roy Helu)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE SEASON: If your overall player of the season plays on defense then chose someone different here.

(Last year's winner: Ryan Kerrigan)

ROOKIE OF THE SEASON: This is the definition of a 2 horse race with only one winner! If you did chose a rookie in any of the above categories (and I'm guessing you will) then repeat them here.

(Last year's winner: Ryan Kerrigan)

PLAY OF THE SEASON: Could be RG3's run against the Vikings, Moss's tippy-toes TD catch, Cousins QB sneak, Garcon's bomb reception, Jackson's interception v Cowgirls - anything that got you out of your seat or made you shout 'Hell Yeah!' this season, you choose. (There is a thread for this already so visit that if you're not sure what to go with).

(Last year's winner: Ryan Kerrigan's int & TD vs NYG)

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: New category. This goes to a guy who had a season we didn't expect from them. They HAVE to have been on the roster the previous season in order to be able to measure improvement in performance.

Players like Rob Jackson, Will Montgomery, Trent Williams, Lorenzo Alexander, Darrel Young, Barry Cofield, Leonard Hankerson, Logan Paulsen, Perry Riley and Tyler Polumbus should all be up for consideration here.

BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE AGAINST THE REDSKINS: Which player in opposition was just too much for us to handle.

(Last year's winner: Rob Gronkowski, NE)

When responding please give the category with the player (not just names on their own). Funny answers are fine if you want, but give me your real answers as well.

If you have any further suggestions for categories let me know (soon), but I've deliberately left out things like 'Worst moment of season' or 'worst player of season' as I want this to be a positive thing to reflect the direction we're going in.

I also don't want to have too many categories and put people off voting.

Thanks for your time guys.

The way I'm reading it, it's the same for offense and defense: the POTY is someone, and then two different people are selected Offensive POTY and Defensive POTY.

But the rookie of the year can be anyone.

Why, I cannot say. But it's SLR's thread, so we should humor him. :)

PLAYER OF THE SEASON:

RGIII

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE SEASON:

ALF MORRIS

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE SEASON:

LONDON FLETCHER

ROOKIE OF THE SEASON:

RGIII

PLAY OF THE SEASON:

RGIII 76 YD RUN VS MIN

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER:

ROB JACKSON

BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE AGAINST THE REDSKINS:

SUGGESTION: Coach of the Year or Lineman of the Year. Often times the big uglies get no love, so shouting out the best O or D lineman would be cool.

OK, I gave it some thought and this seemed the best way of doing it. It may seem strange but there is a kind of logic to it.

Basically, pick your overall player of the year, that's the big award.

Then pick your player of the year for both the offense and defense. This way we celebrate three different players contributions over the season. The other way of doing it would be "pick your overall player of the year, then pick your player of the year for the unit that your overall player of the year doesn't play on" - and that seemed a little silly to me.

Then choose your rookie of the year, but if they get your vote for the main awards then they should repeat here, as they're only a rookie once after all.

Anyway, nobody questioned it last time so stick with this formula for now and I'll take suggestions on board for next season if people have better ideas!!!
