Winslow to visit Redskins

University of Miami tight end Kellen Winslow II arrived in the area last night to begin a visit with the Washington Redskins, sources familiar with the meeting said.
The Redskins are considering picking Winslow, the son of the Hall of Fame tight end, with the fifth overall selection in the April 24-25 draft.
Sources familiar with Washington's deliberations say the club also is considering Miami safety Sean Taylor, who is expected to visit next week, and potential trade-back scenarios. With just three selections (first, fifth and sixth rounds), the Redskins would be more likely to get an impact defensive lineman or linebacker if they acquire more picks.
Over the next two weeks, approximately 11 potential draftees will visit the Redskins, a club source said.
Winslow will visit Redskin Park today as the Redskins try to gauge how he might impact coach Joe Gibbs' offense. In the protection-first scheme, Winslow would play H-back, a tight end/fullback hybrid that would make him a key target and allow him to stretch the field.
A complicating factor, though, is the likelihood Winslow will select Carl and Kevin Poston as his agents. Although Winslow has not made an announcement, there were strong indications last night he had decided to go with the Postons.
Most NFL teams are wary of dealing with the Postons, who drive hard bargains for their clients, but the Redskins are particularly chafed after being accused of removing a $6.5 million roster bonus from the final draft of linebacker LaVar Arrington's contract. Arrington and the Postons have filed a formal grievance with the NFL.
Sources familiar with Washington's thinking say the club is considering passing on Winslow if he selects the Postons, because the risk of a holdout or messy contract situation might outweigh Winslow's potential on-field benefits.
"Signability is huge" in Washington's considerations, one source said.
Still, the Redskins must consider a potential game-changing player at a position where journeyman Mike Sellers or overweight Byron Chamberlain currently are battling. Winslow (6-foot-5, 243 pounds) caught 60 passes for 605 yards last season, and some observers believe he could have more impact in the NFL than his Hurricanes predecessor, current New York Giant Jeremy Shockey.
Note — Washington signed linebacker Khary Campbell, who participated in the late-March minicamp, and released defensive tackle Reggie McGrew.
