No more BONANZA $$$ for rooks...

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

No more BONANZA $$$ for rooks...

Post by tribeofjudah »

Andrew and Robert came out of college 2 years too late for the BIG BONANZA paychecks.

A far cry from Bradford. It went down a bit to Cam.
Now it's gone way, way down for Andrew and Robert....

Mara and GoDaHell forgot to take enough money from the Redskins and Jurrah's Girls to raise the Rookie wage scale (Which still hasn't come out). That means the Pool will be based on what the 2012 cap should have been ($113M)

Cam Newton went #1 last year and got a four-year contract worth $22,025,498

If Luck and RG3 are as good as expected they will make more money than Cam Newton or Sam Bradford

the Redskins will end up making RG3 one of the highest paid QBs ever

all he has to do is get through that first few years with the same desire and drive as he's had the past few years

he'll be paid ..... and then some :D
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The vets screwed over the rookies with the new deal. Of course, the top 10 picks had been screwing over teams for a decade before that.

Still, it'd be nice if they had tried to find a middle road. Especially now that restricted free agency doesn't pay like it used to. :|

Try looking at it from the other perspective. Suppose Cam Newton's worth is something closer to 4 years, $35 million, but the new CBA and free agent rules means he's gotta play for 33% less than he could otherwise get.

Would your claim really be that Cam wasn't wronged just because he's still making many millions? Because $13 million, even to a man with $22 million, is a hell of a lot of money to be flippant about — especially when you're not the one missing out on it.

I'm not saying they aren't making plenty of money, enough to retire on if they are smart, or that this is the world's biggest problem. Far from it. (Both of those responses are red herrings, of course.)

But you try asking Apple if it'd be insignificant to lose $1 billion just because they have $75 billion (or whatever absurdly high number it is) in the bank. Just because these guys are rich doesn't mean they deserve whatever financial penalty the NFL decides it's going to give them.

(Actually, to be proportionate it'd probably have to be more like $35 billion. You know, chump change.)

early reports are that Luck will get about $22M and Griffin about $21M

Luck and Griffin's future contracts are going to be astronomical

But seriously, I think it's a good thing with the affect it has on the draft, with teams not fearing making a mistake so much anymore. It allows for more trading, which makes the draft more exciting, IMO.

Oh, I get it ... and I could go either way.

He's worth exactly what he signed for. Bradford was worth exactly what he signed for. So was Jamarcus Hustle. I'm worth exactly what I just signed for. That's the old "free market" mantra and I get that too.

Of course, I'd be a little dissed if I were the 1st #1 pick with the new wage scale. But honestly, before was insanity. No wonder the vets were pissed ... and people really didn't want the top pick!

No tears here.

I don't necessarily agree with it but it's a sort of tautology. Whatever you sign for is what you are worth by definition.

Rookie QBs picked 1st in the NFL draft are worth more than heart surgeons but not as much as top pick rookie QBs from 3 years ago - straight out of the capiltalist handbook.

For me, they are way overvalued now and it was worse a few years ago - but I still watch, live, die, and cheer on a weekly basis come the fall.

You keep trying... but I'm having a hard time feeling sympathy with getting ONLY 22 Million over 4 years... ummm... sucks to be them...

At a time when millions are wondering where their next paycheck is coming from, fretting over the pitance received by a top ten check seems almost obscene... =;

I have noticed that none of them have turned up their nose at the contracts...

All of these athletes get paid way too much

the shame is not the amount of money they should make OR deserve to make - most players have no idea how to keep the money OR ensure their financial stability after football

players spend a lot of time and effort getting into the NFL but very few spend any time or efforts in preparing for what follows football

I understand that Santana Moss is hurting financially - that is just a big shame to me

someone once said 'a fool and his money are soon parted' - how in the world did a 'fool' get money in the first place?
