interesting fact about running qbs..

Post by Prowl33 »

If I am remembering this right, and I think I am, there has never in the history of the NFL been a qb that has run more than 350 yards in a season and won the super bowl. Rg3 is a run/pass mix qb.

I still stand by Tannehil, the kids got natural talent and would of had a much better college career if he wasn't put into a wr role his first 2 years.

So, draft Tannehil at 6 if its not possible to trade down and still get him. Sign Jackson/colston and garcon. Draft around building the o line and defensive backfield, and we have a very very good chance of being playoff bound this year and Superbowl contenders shortly after. I also say sign Orton to either start this year or compete with Tannehil for year 1, and be our backup for future years.

Well if you stand by Tannenhill, you might as well stand by the Browns or whoever else gets him. RG3 is the pick baby!!!!

I'm sure you'll change your mind when dude goes left, fakes a playaction handoff, then takes off misdirection at 4.3 speed! Defenses will have to leave a defender in.

As long as he plays pass first, run 2nd, then I'm good.

I was skeptical about a running QB at first too; but this guy put up a ton of yards (I don't remember the exact number, but it was over 10,000) and he's a 70% career passer (if you can call it that in college).

Per RG3... he is pass first, and is looking for a receiver until he crosses the LOS... and reviewing film... it appears he is telling the truth. He is a perfect fit for Shanahan's offense. He can throw from the pocket... he can throw on the run, whether to the left or to the right.

+1 RGIII is pass first and anybody that thinks that he'll be running around like Vick will be sorely disappointed. I would expect few designed run plays for RGIII, with his speed and athleticism used mainly to roll him out or move him around in the pocket.

Whew! Good thing we didn't just get the rights to draft a running qb. The top 2 qbs are pocket passers.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

sorry... this is as close to a can't lose proposition as you get in the NFL...

Luck? Griffin? Neither would break my heart. Both will have stellar carreers, IMO.

THANK YOU. I know the guy is an athlete, and he can run. But do some homework and you'll see not only can the guy throw the ball, but he's accurate.

I think ill wait and see what happens before I write off the next decade as utter failure. We seemed much improved last year despite the record, and perhaps RGIII'S skills are a tad better than Rex's. Maybe having a better qb will lure good fa recievers. I have a feelig this was an ok move.

WRONG!

adding RGII is NOT just "adding a running QB" ... OR ... a QB that "is a run/pass mix"

RGIII is a WHOLE LOT MORE than that to this franchise

each and every great QB in history is their own mold - they are not "like" some other great QB

RGIII makes a whole lot of sense in so many ways but I expect him to be molded into his own unique greatness by Mike

RGIII is going to just be "a great QB" AND, NOT like anyone else

MOST IMPORTANTLY - HE's GOING TO BE PLAYING IN B&G
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Classifying RGIII as a running QB isn't correct. He's appears to be one of the first QB's in the mold of Mike Vick that looks to pass first and has the capability to complete those passes.

Count me in too - there's no way that the Colts don't take Andrew Luck

BUT

Both Luck and Griffin are going to help their franchises for many years - NO DOUBT

we are so lucky to finally have a real QB - this will mean so much to so many other facets of how we play the game and how the other players look at this franchise

we are for real - we will be a lot better because of this trade

NOT just because we have a great QB but ALL the other things that will happen because we made this move

great job by the FO

Vick is arguably the most athletic QB to ever touch the field. Since coming into the league, he's grown his throwing skills considerably. In regards to athletic ability, I see RGIII as being part of that mold. IMO, RGIII doesn't seem to have the lateral moves that Vick does but he more than makes up for it other areas.

I'm not arguing against you, I can understand why you would say that. But I don't think that either of us are way off base in our opinions.

Yeah, Vick developed into what he is, he was a RB without enough padding to be an RB for the Falcons. Now he's a QB who can run. RG3 seems to be a QB who can run out of the gate. Great for us.

Stats like drop backs vs runs vs throws and sacks in college would be nice.. of course completion percentage would go to rgiii the kid is jus insanely accurate even running one way throwing across his body the other. Seriously serious.

DarthMonk wrote:RGIII looks to move to throw. He's not Aaron Rodgers but he looks down field while moving like Rodgers does and seeks to throw first like Rodgers does for sure. He is a QB who can run - not a runner who can throw. He is not prone to bail out the way Vick and many others do.

Vick himself can't take the pounding Vick does. He (Vick) runs too much. RGIII is 2 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier and looks to pass first. RGIII is same height and weight as Rodgers. How about Vick is an RGIII impersanator without RGIII's size???!!!

Vick takes off and runs on 23% of his drops.

Rodgers does this on 11% of his.

RGIII [did] so on 30% of his in college.

Vick did so on 40% of his college drops.

I'd expect RGIII's running rate to halve like Vick's did. It better!

Vick has learned that his body and the offense are better off by NOT looking to run the ball as much

RG3 will not be looking to run as much as Vick did when he came into the NFL

# of total sacks? and I don't think you can find completion percentages on the run.. thats what I meant to type Darth I saw your post and agree rgiii will run about half as much knowing the guys who are pro... Are pros.

another interesting fact about "running quarterbacks":

Only two quarterbacks drafted with one of the first three picks since 1990 have won at least one playoff game before their fourth year in the league.

Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb

What did they both have in common? Ability to extend plays with their legs. When you get picked high, you're likely playing for a pretty bad team, and I think the athleticism helps make up for the short falls around them. Pure pocket passers, I think, are more dependent on having a good line in front of them to succeed.
