He's a Free Agent but I would like him back personally even though we will have to pay a lot. He's a playmaker when healthy and we need that in the secondary since Hall cant do it.

Its unfortunate this guy can't stay healthy. I would not re-sign him if he's asking for a big amount.

I doubt if anyone will shell out big bucks for him at this point given his injuries the last 2 years.

So we won't have to pay up for Landry. I hope the surgery is successful; we need him.

Yeah, I'd hate to lose Landry. He's been our most consistent player in the secondary since he's been here.

Consistently injured maybe! He's a beast when he's on the field, but the team really needs to do their due diligence on his medical situation before they pay him anything substantial.

Also, I don't know about Landry's being the most consistent player since he's been here. In the years before Haslett got here, wasn't he kind of a disappointing draft pick?

He'll be back... and Haslett knows how to use him.

He was out of position playing free safety for a while due to the death of Sean Taylor. Landry is better when he can play closer to the line of scrimmage. He's a manimal when used correctly.

If he needs surgery on his achillies I would not re-sign him. That is usually a 12 month recovery which means he would probably be out or not be very effective next year.

From what I understand it's not a different issue then last year but that he never healed. He should have had surgery sooner and then didn't get rehab because of the lockout.

He's a good kid, I predict we sign him for a one or two year deal. If he shows he is healed that way then it's worth signing him to a big contract. But there is no win in his going to another team and rehabing. We'll get it done here.

I also don't see Landry coming back, unless it's for a short term deal loaded with incentives for games played.

Even when healthy, he is a coverage liability and a personal foul magnet, and he doesn't seem to be improving on either regard. He did have that nice playoff game in Seattle in his first or second year, but have there been many defining Laron Landry moments since then?

He did play out of position at FS, but the team has other weaknesses that are more glaring than resigning him to a big contract to play SS.

Shanahan:

**********************

Asked how Landry will be evaluated in the free agent market given his injury history, Shanahan replied: "I think everybody will be taking a look at him, not just us, saying, 'Hey, let's look at the surgery. Let's take a look at what the doctor says, how long the rehab will be, how long it will take to come back full speed. And I think everybody will make decision then."
*******************

Not a positive answer...but, of course, the team will be negotiating, so Shanahan will not say what he's really thinking.

This guy has missed lots of games and it's just too bad, cuz he's a baller when healthy.

OH ....how we long for another playmaker like ST....

Watching Ryan Clark play for the Stillers and I can't help but be disappointed in letting him go. We let him go so that we could make a spot for Landry. What a waste. That 6th pick could have been better spent had we kept Clark. Typical Vinny/Danny decision making.

Landry was supposed to be the compliment to Taylor. Ryan is now a FS and doing well. No one thought ahead and planned for what if Sean was killed. Give me a break on that one. I liked Ryan also but think back to before Landry got injured last year. That was why he was supposed to be; the better man for the job. Landry when healthier is a better Strong safety. Ryan is a FS as far as I know.
