Ex-Texans WR lands job with Redskins

Ex-Texans WR Anderson lands job with slumping Redskins

The Washington Redskins have agreed to terms with former Houston Texans wide receiver David Anderson, a league source said Monday.

The Redskins have been short-hnaded at the position with Santana Moss missing the past two games because of a broken bone in his left hand. Anderson played for offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Houston, so the six-year veteran is familiar with Washington's system.

The Texans released Anderson on Oct. 12 after bringing him back earlier in the season. Anderson was among the Denver Broncos' final preseason cuts after joining the team in camp.

The Redskins' offense has scored just 11 points in its past two games. No Redskins receiver had more than 40 yards in either game, with tight end Fred Davis and running back Roy Helu becoming quarterback John Beck's favorite targets.

That's the standard? Only sign players who will get us 8 more wins? Personally the only receivers we have I'm sold on keeping are Moss and Gaffney and I'd prefer Gaffney as #3 not #2. The rest are upgrades waiting to happen. If there's even a potential I say go for it.

This guy comes in and can help teach the WRs this offense. We're hearing that they are not running the right routes, etc. He knows the offense. We know what we're doing and not doing. Can't see why anyone would scoff at this.

Redskins dump Donte’ Stallworth

The non-rebuilding rebuilding process in Washington continues.

Receiver Donte’ Stallworth, a one-time first-round pick who has floated around the league with so-so results, joined the Redskins not long after the lockout ended. Now, the Redskins have decided to move on.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins have cut Stallworth. But this wasn’t a Brian Robiskie roster-spot-at-another-position move. The Redskins dumped Donte’ to sign another receiver.

Per Jones, David Anderson will replace Stallworth. Anderson played for the Texans during Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s time there as an assistant coach.

Appearing in only four games, Stallworth had five catches for 46 yards with the Redskins.

Anderson might be able to contribute, I like his attitude (post signing) so the jury hasn't seen the case for him yet he has 8 weeks to make a case.

Other than that I'd have to agree with your revised statement, with the addition of Austin.

LLS. Now seriously guys, ya'll know I try my best not to be a negative nelly over here but wtf is the point of this signing when we have a qb who admitted he doesn't look downfield? Like, is this new guy gonna be our new dumpoff dude? What's the logic behind this?

Did Beck really say: I don't look downfield....?

What the HECK, Beck.... you won't win many (any) games that way.

Why?

I don't understand this move. We have 800 WRs on the roster, why take valuable time from a young WR to play our even just practice a 5'10" cast off?

Beck doesn't look downfield because the dumpoffs are higher percentage passes. He's scared, playing scared.

10 sacks will do that to you... but, I agree. He can't think beyond his checkdown right now... though it was good for 10 catches for Helu.

I agree that he's not thinking long term pocket time, but if he were "playing scared" I don't think he'd have hit so many of the short passes. Hogster is right, he's progressing.

I don't know if anyone on here values Doc Walkers opinion or not but, he basically said that he has seen enough of Beck and he didn't think Beck could succeed in the NFL. Those were not his exact words but pretty darn close on ESPN radio.

Of course no one is going to say it, but I believe the locker room has lost faith in Beck. Either Shanny is right and will prove most everyone else wrong or he is wasting time; everyone's time.

Doc is a homer, so for him to think that Beck is less than Rex, is saying something.

Unless Shanny does something quick like this Sunday or maybe next, keep playing Beck because Rex isn't good enough to win all the rest of the games. If we play him now he might win 4 more.

Yes, Beck had some dropped balls but the same thing happened to Rex.

Our receivers were wide open most of the day.

Here's something I found interesting:

Stallworth played in Balt. w/ Beck
Anderson played in Hou w/ Rex
Stallworth got PT when Beck was the QB
...might we see Rex here shortly???

I actually have another take Tribe. I honestly believe coach wanted to bench Beck vs SF but Rex was still "iffy" since getting over New-Mo-Knee-Ah. I feel Rex will be starting vs the Fins.

Good observation Frank, you could be right bro.

True, but I was more referring to his job security when I said dumpoffs. I think Beck saw Grossman get pulled for taking chances and throwing picks and he is afraid of doing the same and losing the starting role.

As everyone has pointed out though, not a lot of time back there to do much of anything.

Beck very well may be dumping passes off because he's afraid to throw picks, with what happened to Grossman still being fresh in his mind. In terms of Anderson, was he any good with the Texans? I guess it's a plus that he knows the "system" apparently, but I'm still kind of "eh" about the whole thing.
