Moss could be out 4-6 weeks.....

Post by tribeofjudah »

could this be true...???

What's the news with Hightower....???
(Rotoworld) Santana Moss broke a bone in his left hand during Sunday's loss to the Panthers. Analysis: Moss had two catches for 17 yards before suffering the injury in the first half. His timetable is unknown, but a fractured hand for a receiver is often at least a 4-6 week injury. Jabar Gaffney will step in as the No. 1 wideout, but Fred Davis is likely to lead the Redskins in targets going forward. Niles Paul and Anthony Armstrong are candidates to fill in opposite Gaffney.

Hightower appears to be done for the year...

Multiple sources tell @ESPNRadio980 that the #Redskins & medical staff strongly believe that Tim Hightower has a torn ACL, MRI in AM.

He may not know the offense. Seems like Paul & Austin are more of locks to get PT than Hankerson right now. They've practiced more with Beck and seem to be more on the same page. We're 3-3 right now. Still have something to play for and don't want to put a guy out there before he's ready.

That's what I guessed. That sucks. I guess we will see a lot more of Helu from here on out.

I thought Hightower's injury wasn't that severe? I hope Armstrong steps it up in Moss's absence.

I have to correct myself here, Evan went to Westfield. His brother went to Fairfax.

Moss is a bad loss... but Fletch is the rock and soul of the defense, who would be especially pumped for the game against the Bills... that one truly hurts...

The first thing I thought when I saw his "practice" on ESPN this morning was, "Oh God please don't let us pick up TO." But based off of his track record, I don't think Shanahan would even touch him.

I don't either. The only benefit to signing him (just for the rest of this season, of course) would be to give Beck the chance to work with a real NFL receiver for the remainder of this season as he auditions for next year's back up job.
I think Owens would PROBABLY behave for 10 games if he thought he could parlay that into a decent deal somewhere else next offseason.

I don't think Beck is auditioning for a backup role just yet, if he continues to improve there's no doubt Shanahan will stick with him at the beginning of next year.

He lost the starting job battle to Rex in preseason, only got put in after Rex crapped all over himself, and was mediocre in his only game so far. He is going to have to improve significantly before there's even a point in discussing whether or not he will be the starter next year.

He also missed a week of practice, and hadn't started in an NFL game for 4 years since his rookie season. What choice did Shanahan have other than going with (shudder) Grossman? I know people say Beck can't be good because he barely lost the starting job to Grossman in the preseason, but I look at this more differently. How long has Grossman been in Kyle Shanahan's system? 4 years? And he barely beat out a guy that had 2 games experience as a backup in said system? To me that shows me that Beck has been doing precisely what everyone has been saying, practicing and studying this system intensely to make himself a better player.

Maybe at the beginning, depending on the new QBs progress in preseason. I think Beck will have the tacit understanding that he is a placeholder at best, career back up at worst (not the least enviable role to be in, given his career trajectory).

Shanahan understood at the beginning of the season that he has a free pass this year given the unsettled QB situation. This protected status has been reinforced by the new injury situation.

He probably knows that bringing in a rookie QB to groom would probably buy him and Kyle another 3 years at least, whereas sticking with Beck for another year as a starter will likely bring the dismissal of one or both Shanahans.

It doesn't matter how long Rex has been in Kyle's system because he flat out sucks (and he had been in the system 2 years coming into this season not four). Beck could surprise and turn out to be a decent qb, but some of the expectations and talk surrounding Beck is insane. The guy has played in one game in the last four years and we're already talking about him being the starter next season?

The same can be said for those that are constantly saying he either won't be here next year or will be or backup next year. We can't say anything based off of 5 quarters, but IMO what I've seen has been promising.

I think we're speaking in probabilities here. I think we are all offering opinions based on a scenario which may/may not play out. That has to be a given, otherwise how can we discuss possible future events at all without just resorting to a "wait and see" statement?

With that in mind, Beck could be the second coming of Kurt Warner, but the chance of that is vanishingly small. Many more QBs have flamed out or failed to progress than have caught fire and become productive past the age of 30.

With that being said, I think Beck's ceiling is competent career back up. I also reiterate my point above: if the 'Skins go into next season with Beck as the starter and no "QB of the future" on the team, both Shanahans will not survive the offseason if the team fails to make the playoffs.
