Washington Redskins vs. Carolina Panthers Week 7 2011
The Washington Redskins are leading the series against the Carolina Panthers 7-2. The last time the Panthers won was when they played in 2009 which was the last game.
Both teams have new quarterbacks, runnings and other players not only on the team but starting as well. There are true Skins fans on this forum so place you poll answer and give a reason why you think the Skins will win or lose.
Let the Polls begin!!!!

We have to get into a shootout though, that is how you beat them evidently.
I haven't really followed the Skins up to this point but are they able to win a shoot out? I know they are 3-2 however I am thinking those were dog fights.
What team have you been following?

ATX_Skins, I am about ready to drink the kool-aid but you have to sweeten it up for me. Y'all haven't scored over 30 points all year. In my books a shoot out is when both teams are running and gunning while raising the score.
Y'all scored 28 points against the Giants but that wasn't a shoot out that was more like the Skins having their way.

That is a tough question for even homers like me, but here it goes.
If Rex plays, we still win. Rex played very well in the Giants game (110 rating) even though we couldn't run. Even though Rex is a turnover machine, he does have some games where he looks like an All-Pro. I thought he was due last week, but of course, I was wrong. I think he is due this week for the following reason. We got our tails whipped by Philly last year coming out of the bye week. We turned around and went to Tennessee and beat the Titans on their home field. History does sometimes repeat itself. We did get lucky in the Titan game and knocked Vince Young out and in came Collins? No, Opie himself - a rookie named Rusty. Our O line was decimated during that game, Dockery played. Heyer played guard, but we still ran on them (it helped that they were undersized on the D line - are you guys undersized?)
If Beck starts - I think Beck gives \us the best chance to win, because we don't have to pray that good Rex shows up. Beck brings that mobility to the table and is more careful with the ball. Beck is no Brady, but he is no Grossman either. Our Offense opens up and Carolina sees plays that they didn't game plan for.
I would be lying if I said that Cam Newton doesn't make me nervous. Our D has a history of not playing well against highly mobile QBs, but we contained Vick in the second half with the exception of a big play, so I think Cam will get a big play or two during the game, but we will contain him enough to win. Also, Cam should be on the lookout for Dirty 30 when he scrambles, he is known to knock a a QB or two out of the game. He got Vick temporarily last week and did it last year.
I am definitely concerned about Charles Johnson as a pass rusher. If Locklear is at LT, then he will need a lot of help.
To me, Carolina is like Philly in that they have a poor record, but they put up a good fight in every game. This is not a typical 1-5 team.
What will Carolina's game plan be? Stack the box? I believe that Shanny and Co will be ready for that this time. Why weren't they ready last time?
You got me!
As you see I got nothing definitive that our 3-2 team will go out and beat your 1-5 team.
I am like you, both teams have strengths and some glaring weakness. The coach with the best game plan and luck of the bouncing ball wins this game for their team. The Skins will bring on the intensity- they won more games on the road last year than at home. Don't know where Carolina is with intensity - are they frustrated or are they feeling that they are as good as any team. The played the Packers well - will they take the Skins lightly.
So regardless of who starts at QB for the Skins, we win this game for the same reason (We are capable of playing good football) we beat a team like the Giants who beat the Bills who beat the Eagles. I don't buy that stuff that the Giants were injured - they were injured against the Bills. Turns out the Cowboys weren't so weak as folks had been saying - darn near knocked off the Pats on their home turf.

Be nice to the gentleman, ATX. The outcome of the game is entirely dependent upon the performance of our quarterback. If it's Rex, we have a problem. You will sell out on stopping the run, just as Philly did. Rex is often not capable of winning a game on his own. Good Rex... Bad Rex...
If it's Beck, bets are off. His athleticism negates the attempt to stop the run.
I like our chances. As ATX notes... you will not score 28.

Skins win BECAUSE we will have the pleasure to make the proper introductions.
Mr. Newton, may I have the pleasure to introduce you to Mr. Orakpo and Mr. Kerrigan?

Ok ATX_Skins, I see you aren't a dead skin which is good but a quick assessment the Redskins are ranked 17th in overall offense averaging 19.2 points per game.
The pass offense is is ranked 17th as well with an average of 180 yards per game and a run offense of 96 yards per game ranked 17th as well.
So by those numbers there is no where that suggests that the Skins are a team that has been in a shoot out so far. The run is your strength against the Panthers because teams are average about 130 yards per game in rushing.
The thing that scares me about the Skins defense is that they are ranked 6th overall but considering the teams they have played I shouldn't be worried. I am though because DeAngelo Hall has a knack for playing Steve Smith tight.
Again the Skins haven't really played anybody that I can see other than Philly and they are struggling. The only way I can see the Skins winning is if the Panthers can't protect the ball or find a way to give the game up like they have in the previous games they lost.
I can see your team running the ball heavily because your pass offense is sub-par. So I will jump out on a limb and say the Panthers will win because it's going to take more than your defense to win this game unless like I said Cam tries to force the ball to a well covered Steve Smith.
The Skins offense is too mediocre at least up to this point of the season.

LMBO. Those are 2 boys to be afraid of that is for sure but I am hoping we have Otah back next next to give us an edge in pass protection.

What is carolina's defense ranked? What is their offense ranked? Carolina does not have an answer for our run game, nor do they have an answer for Fred Davis, who btw I think will have a big game.
Unless Carolina has an offense I have yet to see this year I don't see them doing much against our D. Gossman got benched for throwing 4 picks Sunday, yet Cam threw 3 and ya'll made excuses.
Good luck, but no chance you guys win. The thing you guys in Carolina should focus on is not coming away with any injuries on offense, especially if Cam decides to run around like a wild man...

Now that you mentioned Hall, he has some payback to give the home crowd in Charlotte. The last time D. Hall was seen in that stadium, Jake Delhomme made out like Cam Newton and stiff armed Hall on his way to a game clinching first down. Yes, do be concerned about D Hall in other ways than Steve Smith.
C'mon Cat, give the Giants some credit, they beat the Eagles on their home turf and beat the red hot Bills on their home turf. The Giants are like us, they go the way their starting QB goes, but he didn't have a bad game against us. Kerrigan's INT was a forced error not a boneheaded play by Manning. Give Dallas a little credit, they were injured when we played them, but the way they played the Pats says injured or not, they are a good team. They lost one of their starting O linemen against the Pats, but still had the Pats on the ropes.
Not saying that all this should scare you, but the Skins are capable of putting a good game together.
Check out the Giants game, we won that with the pass, so saying that we have to run to win is failing to look at the Giant game.
Fumbles and errors by the Skins is the only way that we can win against the Panthers? Isn't that how we lost to the Eagles? With Beck in that game, it was a different offense. INTs are the only reason the Cards played us close. The same with the Rams! Rex's boneheaded INT against Dallas was a killer.
Fumbles and Ints and QBs getting knocked out of the game is all part of it.
Love your post though, you are helping to believe strongly that we will win.

I take back the notion your team hasn't played anybody becaue the Cowboys are ranked in the top 10 in offense and defense and y'all played them well. Even though they are a division team that still means a lot.
Good stuff, this is a tough call but the only reason why I say the Panthers will win is because the Redskins are struggling on offense mainly with passing. Cam will find a way to move the ball down the field and I say this because our offense mostly start drives at the 15 or under. Special teams isn't helping us out at all, but we haven't played a team with a top 10 defense so this will be a real test for the boys in electric blue.
If the Skins can't run the ball, they will have to rely mainly on defense to create turnovers to put y'all in good field position. Carolina has effectively silenced some good receivers such as Roddey White, Larry Fitzgerald, Greg Jennings but Jordy had a field day. Colston didn't do much for the Saints either but Graham was a cowboy out there. Who is the Skins tight end?
If you can get your tight end into action as well as your running backs you have a good chance to win because we are missing 2 key linebackers so there are mis-matches available if your personnel can monopolize.

Carolina is ranked 5th in total offense boss. A big jump from last in 2010.

Hey Cat,
Check back tomorrow night. We should know who is starting the game. I am interested to see what the poll shows when everyone knows who is starting.
But I also want to point out. Hightower was the announced starter on Sunday and he didn't play a down. Also, if Rex starts, he might be on a very short lease, so you game plan for Grossman and then Beck comes in early.
Like I said, I think this game is going to come down to strategy by both HC's and of course turnovers nad injuries will probably figure into it.

Red__One, hot name but your offense isn't that at least not so far. I don't know much about the Giants this year but as far as I know, they have been banged up. On that note though the NFL put out a release that said teams will be fined for faking injuries so that is something to consider.
