Well, this was bound to happen at some point. We are an 8-8 team in terms of quality, and the Eagles are much, much better (in terms of talent/quality) than their 1-4 record going into today.
I thought our defense played a good game today. To me, this loss is almost entirely on the inability of our offense to execute, starting with the QB. Terrible to lose our offensive linemen like that; one area where we will be exposed if we can't have our starters on the field.
Some interesting choices facing the coaches going forward. I am still looking primarily for improvement. This was a crucial game if we were going to be in contention for the division title, but now with that loss out of the way we are back to building something for next year and the years after.
Could not see the game, which might have been a good thing? (Still trying to beat NFL.COM into submission...if a certain division of GE that I knew and loved worked as badly, the world might have gotten email and global networking about ten years later...)
Does it look like Beck is a respectable QB? Rexie had 4 INTs, some of which might have been bounces and bad luck, but four????
No, having lived through the "Shane Matthews Experience", I will not say, "OK, this can't get worse than Rex".
Maybe we should all forget this week, check back next game, and decide then who is the real Redskin team?
But mostly I agree with welch. I'm going to skip reading anything Skins-related this week, and just wait to see what the Skins can put together next Sunday.

I think that parts of our D were positive, but there were a couple of glaring negatives, and that being our corners and Orakpo's lack of discipline which killed is in the run game and in Vick being able to get out of the pocket and make some things happen.

Honestly, my first thought was: "The Eagles still aren't a good team!" I mean honestly, we GAVE THEM 4 INTS and they only scored 20 points and if the Shannys would've put Beck in before the 4th INT, we might have had a decent shot of taking this into OT. Our D is for real! Our O is a major work in progress. With one OL out for the season and another hobbling, we will need our back-ups to step up! I feel that the Carolina game next Sunday is a must win for us to keep in the playoff race. I still think that we are a playoff team and this loss didn't do anything to confirm/confuse my thoughts.

They weren't perfect, but they were also facing a top-5 offense. We got gashed by the run, too. In the end our defense wasn't going to be able to win this game by themselves. Nevertheless, they gave a good effort, unlike the offense (IMHO).
Fred Davis was another huge positive. I do wish we had dealt ey in the offseason this year or last year while he had more value. Either way, I think the Davis era is now upon us.
Welch, this game started with our D stopping their O and Banks returning a punt for next to nothing and getting a facemask 15 yeard penalty that set us up withgreat field position. We totally squandered the opportunity. Grossman interception. This would prove to be the stroy of the game - No Offense!
Grossman's first INT, put the Eagles on their own 1, but the first of two crucial 15 yard penalties put the ball on their own 16 to start the drive. After no gain on first down, on second down, the center hiked the ball over Vick's head into the end zone, Rak, who was in coverage, left his man and went after Vick who was having trouble picking up the ball in the end zone. Vick flings the ball out of bounds, possibly intentional grounding in the end zone, but no - Rak is called for roughing the passer - I hear it was a helmet blow, but I was at the game and could not tell by the replays at the game. Instead of third and 10 from their 16, they are given a 1st at their 31. They took the ball down the field to score a TD and the flood gates opened up temporarily.
The seond and third series of this game set the tone for way that this game was to go the rest of the way until Beck came into the game.
Welch, in my opinon, the team that showed up today is the same that showed up in the past 4 games. This team could not run against the Giants and Cowboys - The D played well in those games. In the Giant, game, this team got help from the O (Grossman 110 QB rating) and the D made a key play for the win. In the Cowboy game, this team got a little help from the O and a little hurt. D never gave up a TD. Offense did not do enough - 16 points. In the Card game, we got a lot of help from the O and a lot of hurt. This should have been a blow out, but O mistakes kept it close. In the Rams game, we got a lot of help from the O and a lot of hurt. In the Philly game, we got a no help (until Beck) and a ton of hurt by the O.
The D played well in four games and considering how much hurt and how little help they got from the O, they played well in the Philly game - Only giving up 20 points when we gave up 4 turnovers and shutting out the Eagles in the second half was playing well enough to be an Offense that no team has stopped this year. The D produced two key interceptions, but the O could do nothing.
The big play is still plaguing this team's defense - Cards big first down runs and big pass plays. Giants big pass play. Cowboys big runs. Philly big runs. Despite giving up the big plays in all these games, the D, including today, has kept us in all of the games
In other words, the sluggish O caught up to us. Shanny said last night on his show, we have to keep Vick off the field. The best way to do that is offense keep the ball - it didn't happen. Vick had the ball all day except when he got clobbered by Dirty 30.
Beck didn't come in and light things up - he missed on passes, but his passes that he missed were - oh so close (some were drops). He did scramble 12 yards for a first down. Ran a QB draw for TD. Executed the bootleg like it is supposed to be run. He clearly has a stronger arm that Grossman. He hit Austin with a lazer strike to the goal line to set up his TD. Beck will allow Kyle to run plays that he couldn't with Grossman.
Hopefully, the change at QB will be made - it is time.
Beck just might be the spark to get this O moving in the right direction.
Sad day for for me, that got kicked back to reality and the usual dejavu of the words rebuild, work in progress, build up, years to come, draft day. Same story since 1992.......

If you weren't at the game, it sounds like you were. I agree with your observstions. The corners were playing for the deep ball and giving up so much room that Vick found receivers open underneath all doing the first half. The D line had no chance to ge to him. Good observation on RAk and his lack of discipline on his rushes. I am not sure that Jackson came in at one point because of Rak's mistakes, but Jackson came in and showed how it was down on one run play - broke down and wrapped up - good solid hit.

True - not only did the D get little help from the O, they got hurt by the O with all those turnovers and three and outs.

Love the positve spirit! With better offensive play out of the QB position, this team could be energized for next week.
The skins got a bye week and come out and perform like DO-DO.
Yes the zebras made some bad calls early in the game that gave the eagles momentum.
Rex Grossman is back to looking like the Qb from the bears.
Just looking like a total waste of a nfl QB after teams starting game planing to take his sweet spot away, middle of the field intermediate routes. Besides throwing a good fade in the red zone. Rex is a turn over machine.
Mike S. has to be hoping John beck can do better.
Our offense looks like DO-DO.
I had hopes for us at the start of the season but after teams start scheming what you are doing and you have nothing to do better with than it's back to medicore land.
Man, every time I come on here after a loss its like a country song where your dog died, your wife left, and your kids hate you.
Look, Gross Rexman's four turnovers did us in and our hope is that Beck will be starting next week. He looked rough, but if he doesn't turn the ball over and can better timing down with the receivers, we will be a better team. We put up a good fight in spite of Gross turning the ball over so many times. I wish he would have been taken out sooner and if he had been then who knows what could've happened. This team is NOT dead yet and still has a chance to prove itself coming up next week. I am just hoping Beck is given the chance to start and come out to show us he is the better option.
I had a feeling all week this was coming. It seems like any time a team in our division needs to get back on track, they always do it against the Skins. Today was no exception. The Skins just don't match up well with the Vick-era Eagles. I have a feeling we should get used to it; there are going to be many more games like this....
I don't think MS has a choice but to start JB after Rex through up all over himself.
Sometimes needs to let MS minor know he can challenge plays. The first pick Rex threw would have been over turned if he had challenged the play (the ball came lose as the DB went to the ground).
That was a horrendous roughing the passer penalty wear Rak hit Vick clean (no helmet to helmet and not late) and Vick should have been called for intentional grounding which might have been a safety.
The refs sucked but they weren't the reason we lost.
The D was like bipolar. I give them a D- for the first half and an A- for the second half. The O gets an F! Not just Rex, because both of the passes thrown towards Davis were as much his fault as they were Rex's. The lt one good partially be blamed on Gaffney.
How many long balls did our WR and Davis not go get. The entire offense was just terrible!
And while we are at it, the play calling sucked. Except for the flee flicker.

I was at the game and since the crowd was booing so loud, I could not tell what the call was. We knew that it was not a late hit and it appeared that it was not helmet to helmet so yours is the first definitive comment on the late hit that i have read our heard (I did not go through the game thread posts). A friend of mine who watched it at home said that it was a helmet to helmet call, but he didn't see the hit.
We thought it might be intentional grounding because he threw it to avoid a sack and the receiver was far away from where he threw it. We were stunned when the ref called the penalty on us.
It was a huge play that caused a huge swing of momentum. I too and not saying that it cost us the game, but it was a key call.

Just watching the first few passes, sound turned off, that was enough. A pass to Charlie Taylor, seen over Sonny's left shoulder as a (Cardinal?) rusher leaps, Taylor barely even in the right side of the frame, and clearly well behind the defender, but suddenly Taylor has cut through to "no-place", undefended space, just as the ball arrives. Ah, the beauty of that play!
Then a pass from Sonny's back foot...no forward body motion...he;s stepping back from a rusher as he throws a completion.
Then a pass to Bobby Mitchell, who makes a final burst and small jump to put himself between the pass and a DB: TD.
Rather watch old Sonny several times than new Rex.
I can't help but feel the team wasted the bye week by not using it to start Beck against the Eagles. Instead, all that preparation resulted in Rex taking a dump on the field and Beck having to come in on the fly.
Hind sight is 20/20, of course, but the writing was on the wall for Rex already wasn't it?

Meh.
I agree.
I don't fault them for starting him at the beginning of the season but I do fault them for not benching him at the bye. I dont care what the record was/is, he was the biggest problem.
Also, I fault Mike/Kyle for not benching him after 2 picks. That's considering his overall body of "work".

I agree as well especially after he threw two picks. He looked abysmal all day and you could just see that it he was going to be who he was. If they had put Beck in the game sooner rather than later, we may have pulled it off. I can only hope that they let Beck start this week in Carolina.
