It works in baseball, why not in football. Everyone always wants one QB, and no QB controversies, but I think that you could actually have a starter and a closer for every game. Would it work? Well, their playing styles say yes. Grossman is a player that may, eh em, will make bad decisions in the course of a game. Most of the time, if those decisions happen early in the game, they can be overcome. I do like his style of play and feel like he can get the lead on most teams by the third. Then you have Beck, that is a very smart, sound, and safe qb, that can make plays, but is not going to make dumb plays. He may not be able to make all the throws that Grossman can, but he isn't going to lose you games.
What I can't stand is being on my knee's in the fourth quarter hoping that my QB isn't going to lose the game by throwing a dumb pick, or fumbling the ball when being rushed. I feel like I would have more faith in Beck to deliver in the fourth quarter to protect a lead. If we are playing from behind, leave Grossman in of course. This way there is no QB controversy. Grossman starts and Beck closes.
Just something to talk about during the bye.
Grossman then Beck?

Sounds like a good idea in theory, but in reality what would it look it?
1. Who gets the reps in practice? Do they split them? Does Grossman still get starter reps? It seems like you put both QBs at a disadvantage. Would having less reps make more "Bad" Rex appear? Would having less reps stunt Beck.
2. Beck coming off the bench cold, is asking a lot of a QB. Would Kyle cooperate and just run the ball? No.
Sometimes back ups off the bench do well, but it is believed that that happens because of no game planning for him or the defense let's up.
If defenses know that Beck is coming in all the time, they will game plan for that.
I would say if you are the coach and thinking that you might do this, you obviously have given up on Grossman, so you might as well remove him.
I hear what you are saying and I feel your pain as most of us do, but I don't think that what you proposed is something that gives the team the best chance to win.
Riding Grossman into the Philly game is most surely the plan, but should he play terrible from the start of the game, we might see Beck, not necessarily to start the rest of the year, even if he saves the game. GRossman might still get to start the next game and Beck come in for relief if needed - this might sound like what you are talking about, but I am not sure that is could work as a planned thing each game - maybe Beck becomes the reliever until it is time to let him start if a scenario like that I painted as a possibility for the Philly game happens.

I KNOW ALOT OF US ARE DOWN ON GROSSMANS FUMBLING AND MISTAKES, BUT ALL QB'S HAVE THEIR CHINKS IN THEIR ARMOR. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT DURING QUARTERBACK COMPETITION, HE AND BECK WERE PRETTY MUCH EVEN, I THINK THE DECISION TO GO WITH GROSSMAN WAS DUE TO HIS TIME IN THE SYSTEM, 3 YEARS. BECK LEARNED THE SYSTEM ON THE FLY AND WAS COMPETING WITH GROSSMAN. IF GR0SSMAN IS PULLED IN LIGHT OF HIS TROUBLES, THE QUICK LEARNING AND GAME TAPE STUDY WILL MAKE BECK THAT MUCH MORE READY AND I THINK HE WILL PROTECT THE BALL. WE ALREADY KNOW HE HAS A CANNON OF AN ARM AND IS VERY ACCURATE, NOT TO SAY CONFIDENT. SO WE SHOULD GIVE GROSSMAN SOME MORE CHANCES THEN SEE WHAT BECK CAN DO. WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE, AND REX WILL STILL BE A GOOD BACKUP. THE SHANAPLAN KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. JUST WATCH IT UNFOLD.

I'm not that down on Grossman, just makes me squirm when he's trying to close out a game. You're right about reps in practice though. Didn't think about that. Just thought it would be nice to have a closer.

The only real closer in NFL history died last year... The King of Clutch is Gone.
You had to be a fan then to really appreciate him... They don't build them like this anymore.
