And where does Maryland end up? Assuming Texas A&M goes to the SEC and Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State go to the Pac 12 becoming the Pac 16, then what happens? I predict the ACC will follow the same fate.
The SEC will have A&M and the only teams in the Big 12 they would have wanted are gone. They need one more to join with A&M, but I doubt they won't go for 16 to match the Pac 16. FSU, Clemson and Miami seem like their top choices. Normally I'd say the ACC had a chance, but the Big 10 is going to go to 16 as well for the same reason and they are going to focus on TV's. My argument would be they pursue Maryland, GT and Rutgers (Big East) because of eyeballs and growth. For the 16th, Notre Dame pretty well conceded that if the big leagues go to 16 the are probably going to have to join a league, and clearly the Big Ten is the best fit for them.
I'm not saying the ACC won't survive, they still have a core of six Carolina and Virginia Teams. They'd be stronger then the Big 12 at that point and will go after Big East teams.
Just my prediction if it plays out as it's headed. Of course last time a lot more seemed to be about to happen and it didn't, it could end up being the same.
