Anthony Armstrong - WR - Redskins Anthony Armstrong appears to have been demoted to the third receiver at Redskins camp, behind Santana Moss and Jabar Gaffney.
Armstrong is only playing when the Redskins go with three receivers. Moss moves into the slot in those formations, with Armstrong and Gaffney out wide. Some early drops haven't helped Armstrong, and OC Kyle Shanahan made it clear at the start of camp that he'd have to compete to keep his starting job. For now, the reliable veterans Moss and Gaffney are ahead of him.

AA getting demoted...???
You best not drop the balls in practice, lest you "lose" your favor with the Shans....

Did you see Grossman hit Armstrong in stride for a 64 yd TD against the Giants? That was something McNabb didn't do all year long. Hit AA in stride for a long TD pass.
I also saw Grossman hit Moss in stride in the Dallas game which would have been a huge play in the 4th quarter. Only one problem - Moss dropped it. Yes, McNabb is a better QB than Grossman, but his stats last year didn't show it. AA will be just fine, he needs to concentrate on being on that field with the likes of Hankerson breathing down on his head.
Here's some stats and highlights:
Armstrong with Grossman starting
Cowboys 5-100-0
Jax 2-15
Giants 2- 84 - 1

Link below -AA made McNabb look good on the 48 yarder for a TD in the GB game.

Below At 1:13, Grossman hits Armstrong deep. Underthrown, but comepare to the GB hightlight above. At 10:19 is the Santana drop.

Really? AA had one 100 yard game last season. Guess who the QB was that game? (Hint: not McNabb.)
AA caught 2 TDs from McNabb in 12 games. He caught 1 from Grossman in 3 games.
I'm not saying Grossman is a better QB than McNabb. I just don't think the stats justify your concern. Looks like AA was able to play well with both QBs last year.

I think that his numbers will go down, but not because McNabb is gone. He's likely to lose some PT to Gaffney and Hankerson. I still think he'll be a valuable contributor though.

I'd like to think this is a product of a better reciever corps, not a knock on AA... I still don't think our passing game, or offense in general has any of this year's opponents nervous... we're just going to have to be a team that keeps moving the chains and stays away from the dreaded 3-and-out...

Remember AA started last season on the bench (behind the great Galloway).

Yeah I was expecting that to be the case. Its not really shocking at all. He isn't a number 1 or 2 receiver so this isn't surprising.
He isn't? Last yr, only 6 teams had 2 WR's with 800+ yds. We were 1 of them. AA had 871. 3 teams had a #2 WR with more yds.

Because we have more depth. Last year all we has was Moss and Armstrong. This year Gaffney and Hankerson are both likely going to get significant playing time, thereby cutting into AA's numbers. This has nothing to do with AA not being good, it's just a matter of more guys getting PT so less balls going his way.

The Redskins also passed 65% of the plays last season, largely because they couldn't run the ball effectively. It stands to reason the team will run more and pass less this season, better line, worse quarterbacks. AAA only caught 44 passes last season in 15 games played. He caught one for 11 yards at Dallas, two for 36 yards at Houston, four for 30 yards at Tampa Bay, two for 15 yards against Jacksonville. The most he caught in any one game was 6.
Moss, who is really a #2 receiver caught 93 for 1,115 yards. Gaffney caught 65 for 875 last year.
Suffice it to say AAA has a tough road to hoe to earn the starting role. He may even be in competition at the #4 receiver position with Hankerson and a healthy Donte Stallworth. I fail to see how this comes as a shock to anyone, including Anthony Armstrong.
