Redskins reached agreement with former Cowboys DE Stephen Bowen on a 5-year, $27.5 million deal that includes $12.5 million in guarantees.
-per Adam Schefter
Redskins agreed to terms with DE Stephen Bowen on a five-year, $27.5 million contract.
Here come the Redskins. The 27-year-old Bowen has shown real flashes of pass rush ability in a rotational role with the Cowboys and is versatile enough to hold up well against the run as well. Knowing Dan Snyder, this won't stop the 'Skins from still going after Cullen Jenkins. Bowen's deal includes $12.5 million in guarantees.

I like taking players away from division rivals. Especially when those rivals have no way to replace them with another player of equal talent.
This likely means no Cullen Jenkins, despite reports that the Skins were on the cusp of signing him.
Read this article, about how the Cowgirls were scared to death that someone would come along and sign Bowen.
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2011/7/2 ... wen-status
Redskins just got better and the Cowgirls just peed their pants (not that it's that unusual).

Is there a way to block posters? I would really like to stop reading Fanatic's stupidity.
I honestly think he might be Dan Snyder in disguise.
He wants to spend all of the Skins $ on high-priced free agents, he hates the Cowboys, to the point he doesn't want them signed, and he doesn't make much sense when he speaks/writes. (He's Snyder!)

I asked about an Ignore List feature almost a year ago, spudstr. Maybe you can get further with it than I did.
BTW - If I was Dan Snyder, places like this wouldn't exist, so you should probably be happy that I'm not.

What, so because this guy has his own opinion, you have to say that it's stupid? What's the point of this board then if people can't express their opinion without being told that it's stupid?

The Danny brought ES, we aren't for sell. He'd have to by the internet to shut us down and that's not for sale either.
You can always go away and pretend that we don't exist, I'm willing to bet you are pretty good at pretending. You should give it a shot

I liken this to the Canty signing a few years back.. Average to Good player that got a GREAT contract.. Hence, he's way overpaid. He was a situational player in Dallas, not a starter and now he's getting starter pay.

If nothing else a nice lawsuit claiming (even if it can't be proven) the use of protected trademarks and other things would probably put you folks (and the slew of other sites out there) in a bit of a financial pinch. There are ways to get what you want when you have enough money.
Assuming I was The Danny, I'd keep ES open (though with much stricter moderation) and do everything possible to shut down the other places (like this one) to ensure as much control as possible over what's out there.
Just like Snyder buying all the sports talk stations in DC for that same reason. When you control the information, you control the game.

Considering there are no trademark infringements associated with this site and the number of lawyers that are members here the Danny might want to stick to suing newspapers

If ES got any stricter moderation the moderators would be the only members

That's why he was only able to buy 1 Message Board, and don't think he didn't try to buy them all

I didn't say there were, but the need to expend funds to defend oneself from such an accusation can often be signficant in and of itself, even if the charge has no merit.

Oh, so they've actually gotten stricter in the nearly 3 years since I've been banished from there?

Ah, so there's more to it than I was aware. Interesting. I thought he had enough balls to get things done. Apparently not.

Every attorney on this site would take the Danny to court for little or nothing, knowing they'll be getting in his pocket

Apparently not...
Warpath and CPND also turned him down and we are still active Redskins Fan sites. As long as he owns ES we'll be active because he'll keep banning ES members and they'll keep finding us

I spent about 4 years there. In December of 2008 I got banned for discussions that had nothing to do with the NFL, the Redskins, or football at all. I wasn't terribly popular but I was pretty well known over there.

I'm sure he's got people working on ways to put the clamps on you folks. We'll see if he ever gets it done.
Stephen Bowen -
from NBC sports - "we heard from a number of people that Bowen was among the best sleepers in this year’s free agent class"
About Dallas inability to keep him due to cap reasons - "the left defensive end position is vacant. Three ends, Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher and Bowen, are free agents, and the Cowboys are hopeful they can keep at least one or two of them. The salary cap issues the team has, over by $18 million headed into the start of free agency on Tuesday, were reduced with the decisions to release Roy Williams, Marion Barber and Leonard Davis", with RT Columbo possibly next to be released or restructured.

Why did y'all want him back so much if he's a average to good situational player?

This is a post I made on the Cullen Jenkins thread in the General Manager Section.

The Radio Sports guys like him as a cheaper and younger alternative to Cullen Jenkins who is often injured. Love to steal one of their prized possessions, they have alreay offered him second round tender at $1.9 million. If we can't get him, at bid the price up on him.

Although Bowen doesn't attract a lot of limelight or get a lot of press, he has been surprisingly effective in a limited role (one which grew last season as he replaced an injured Marcus Spears in the starting lineup). As the DMN article points out, Bowen was named a "secret Superstar" by Pro Football Focus. After reviewing the 2010 tape, the guys at PFF ranked Bowen as the league's third-best 3-4 defensive end. Pretty impressive stuff. Exhibit A: in 346 pass-rush opportunities, Bowen had 25 total quarterback disruptions (one fewer than Jay Ratliff, who rushed the passer 137 more times).

It's a signing that helps the Redskins and hurts ttiT... that would make you think it's a good move.
When a Puke fan that hasn't posted on the site since Sep 10, 2008 comes on right after the signing is announced and says it's a bad signing you KNOW it was a good move.

Preface: Beware of YOU-KNOW-WHO hijacking threads.
Bowen:
Recorded 17 total tackles in 2008, his most productive year ever in the NFL. A fine athlete with size, Bowen is rapidly developing into a solid spot
player at the defensive end position. He uses his intelligence and technique to give Dallas a serious pass rushing threat off the bench. He also has the versatility to play at nose tackle. scout.com
I like it.
I have felt bad about previous acquistions from Dallas. They include Calvin Hill, Norv, and Deion. I could never root for any of them with real vigor. Somehow I feel differently about Bowen. Maybe it's his position and/or relative lack of name recognition. His being a former Cowboy does not bother me at all.

I am pretty much in the same boat. From what I have read all reports are he is a good player.
Oh to the rest of the hogsters. Yes he is a former Cowboy. Think of it this way we took away a quality player from the enemy.

We overpaid for a rotational defensive end. At least he has 3-4 experience, but he's just not a great player. He's also 27 so I don't see him as a diamond in the rough either.
"Guess [Ryan Kerrigan] really does have a good motor. And is relentless. And never quits on a play. And just keeps coming. And probably eats Wheaties and drinks Apple Pie smoothies and shaves with Valvoline." -Dan Steinberg DC Sports Bog

The Cowboys wanted Canty back, but, obviously they weren't going to overpay for him as is the case here with Bowen. He was a starter only after Spears was done for the year.
BTW, were the Cowboys that interested? According to an interview with Bowen on ESPN radio, the Cowboys didn't even call him until the day after the Redskins made contact.
