Very smart move on his part seeing all the competition that was brought in today.106.7 The Fan has learned that the Redskins and third-round pick Leonard Hankerson have agreed to terms on a four-year contract.
According to a team source, the contract will net Hankerson $2.72 million.
Washington selected Hankerson with the 79th pick in April’s draft. A standout at the University of Miami who was expected to be drafted well before he was, the 23-year-old is the Hurricanes’ record holder for touchdowns in a season with 13.
He’s also one of only three Miami receivers to amass 800 yards in back-to-back seasons (Michael Irvin and Andre Johnson).
Hankerson is one of 14 wide receivers the Redskins are expecting to show up at camp. He’ll be competing for a starting spot, with his stiffest competition at his position likely coming from Santana Moss, Anthony Armstrong and Jabar Gaffney.
By agreeing to a contract on Wednesday night, Hankerson will now be able to show up at Redskins Park on Thursday and participate in team activities as Washington prepares for the start of its training camp.
