2011 Redskins Defensive Preview
LDE- Adam Carriker
NT-
RDE- Jarvis Jenkins (2nd round, 2011)
LOLB- Ryan Kerrigan (1st round, 2011)
LILB- London Fletcher
RILB-
ROLB- Brian Orakpo
CB- DeAngelo Hall
CB-
FS- OJ Atogwe (Signed 3/3/2011)
SS- LaRon Landry
Just trying to get a picture of how the defense is coming together. Looking pretty good actually. Obviously we still need a nose tackle as the most important key of the offense, maybe we'll get Shaun Rogers to fill that spot. We'll see more guys available as free agency begins. Also we obviously need a middle linebacker and I hope we re-sign Carlos Rogers.

I agree. It is looking good. Shaun Rodgers signed with the Saints. Kris Jenkins will be available especially since the Jets drafted Ellis. No way Shanny and Haz lets our D line get pushed around like last year. You can bet something will be done. I suspect a NT will be picked up with one of our several picks. I think Riley is expected to step up for the ILB position. On Friday, Doc Walker continued to talk up Riley. He says that he will surprise a lot of folks this year. I am going to guess CB with our 4th pick. It might be time for Barnes to step up. He can go back to CB now that OJ is here.Skinsfan55 wrote:LDE- Adam Carriker

I'm hoping that they grab Blaine Sumner, and he will be our NT... seriously. Motor... muscle... mean... Plays low. He is built to be an NT, and will be a load for any interior O line to handle, demanding double teams.

You think someone who plays Division II RMAC football will step right in and start for a professional football team? He's not even listed as a draft prospect.

I'm wondering where Jarmon fits in. I'm still pretty high on him. I guess he'll be part of the RDE LDE rotation.Skinsfan55 wrote:LDE- Adam Carriker

I think they are going to be shuffling guys in and out like crazy on the Dline until they feel a guy is ready to stay there. Look for Jenkins to be the back-up going in week 1.
Also don't forget that Greet (NT) come on pretty good at the end of the year. Not saying he's a shoe in but I think between him and that Samoan guy who came from Carolina, we're ok at the position for this year and next year can get someone through the draft or FA.

He was signed by the Saintsfrankcal20 wrote:Rogers signed with New Orleans? I don't think so. My understanding is he can't sign a FA contract until the CBA contract is worked out and/or 2010 rules are in place. If we play under 2010, CR will be a RFA on the Skins so he'll be here next year.

1: Yes. He was a man among boys at that level... and he is incredibly strong, does not quit, and will be a steal. He is very intelligent, and has a very nasty edge when in game mode. Someone is going to get a very good player for practically nothing. I would not mind if that is the 'skins.Skinsfan55 wrote:You think someone who plays Division II RMAC football will step right in and start for a professional football team? With the now wealth of picks at the bottom that the skins now have, it would be worth using one on this player who is "not even listed as a draft prospect". If he goes to Undrafted FA, he will not likely come to us... Think about it. What do you ask a NT to do? Hold ground, and soak up blockers. Penetrate and disrupt, if you can. I think this kid will qualify.
2: Well...
3: Well... maybe... The bottom line is, it won't be expensive to find out...

They are talking about Shawn Rogers, the NT, not Carlos Rogers, the CB. S. Rogers was given an outright release from the Browns prior to the expiration of the CBA... this gave him the right to go anywhere that he wanted... and it gave any team the right to sign him immediately. He did... and they did. End of story.
