Hopefully we'll get Carlos Rogers back, but another OLB will be a big priority for us, and the line is very weak. Lots of talent out there on the market, can't wait for it to all come together.

I vehemently disagree and for multiple reasons. He's nowhere near as bad as people make him out to be. He's a solid CB that can cover most any WR due to his size. He even showed improvement in his hands last year.CanesSkins26 wrote:No more Rogers, it's time to move on.
Secondly, why don't have the luxury of just casting players aside for weak reasons.
He's not worth the money he prolly wants and if he's gone for that reason, so be it, but it'd be dumb just to let him go because he's not a turnover machine. We have other fish to fry.

I disagree. Rogers' coverage skills are vastly overrated and his inability to catch easy interceptions in inexcusable. I can't remember any other db in recent memory that bites so badly on double moves.Chris Luva Luva wrote:I vehemently disagree and for multiple reasons. If we could sign him to a one-year deal or a contract that lets us cut him after one year without a significant cap hit, sure sign him. However, he is going to be looking for a longer term deal and isn't worth the money that he is going to be asking for. Our secondary was garbage last season and Rogers had a lot to do with that.
Maybe we get lucky and Prince Amukamara falls to #10.

I watch DB's get beat left and right every Sunday on every team. It happened to teams that made the playoffs, it happened in the superbowl.Haslett wrote:"He's done a great job, he really has, at covering guys," Haslett said. "Especially in the nickel and the slot, he's done an excellent job. He's hard to throw over. He should have probably five to six interceptions right now."
I still refuse to find too much fault in DB's when the pass-rush is non-existent.
We've seen Walt Harris, who got beat like a drum here due to a lack of pass-rush go to San Fran and make the probowl.
We just saw Tryon leave here and go to the Colts and make an impact.
Living in Baltimore, I see the Ravens disgustingly mediocre secondary get bailed out of trouble because of a stupendous pass rush. Let's stop putting the cart before the horse. Get the pass-rush solved. Get a good NT, get a OLB that can do something. This team has had decent DB's for years and they get a bad rep cus of atrocious line play.
I don't care who we draft, or who we sign, they will SUCK because of the pass rush.

I could care less about Roger's hands, he's still an excellent cover guy who's big enough to tackle and stop the run. Who would we replace him with? There's MUCH bigger issues on the defense. Rogers is a true blue team player who WANTS to be back. Should be easy to sign him.

You're on a hot streak. Keep the wisdom flowing. We were vulnerable to the pass last year because we didn't have the horses to play the 3-4. It created two weak linemen and two weak linebackers, as well as mimimized Orakpo effectiveness. Our defense was terrible because of coaching, not because of a lack of decent DB's. We had four DB's who played well, all things considered.Chris Luva Luva wrote:CanesSkins26 wrote:I disagree. No real interest from the Redskins so far
http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/22/carlo ... ee-agency/Only four Redskins have been in Washington longer than Carlos Rogers. But after six tumultuous seasons, the 29-year-old cornerback could be an ex-Redskin soon.
That is unless the failure of the collective bargaining negotiations produce a lockout a week from Friday -- derailing Rogers' first opportunity at full-fledged free agency. That's what happened a year ago when he was among the 500 or so players whose expected shot at unrestricted free agency disappeared under the revamped CBA rules of 2010.
Despite being a possible victim of the system for a second straight year, the ever-mellow Rogers is declining to get uptight about his situation.
"I'm just waiting for things to get done," he said from his Atlanta home. "I think they will. Even if we have a lockout, I think it will be for a short period of time. They want to have OTAs and minicamps. The owners know how important those are for the coaches. And if the lockout goes on too long, the union will decertify and then we'll be free agents anyway. Sometimes I wonder how come the CBA could hurt me two years in a row, but I'm really not having too many negative thoughts about it."
The same goes for the lack of any serious negotiations between the Redskins -- who chose Rogers ninth overall in the 2005 draft -- and his agent, Todd France.
"I haven't heard nothing from the Redskins, but before I left Washington (after the Jan. 2 season finale) I talked to my coaches," Rogers explained. "(Secondary coach Bob Slowik) told me he loves me and wants me back. (Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett) said the same thing, that I'm the physical kind of matchup corner they want to play with (DeAngelo) Hall. They said, 'You had a good year in your first year in our defense and you'll only be better next year.' "
That's not the kind of feedback Rogers had received the previous two seasons under now-retired coordinator Greg Blache, who benched him during the second half of both 2008 and 2009. And Rogers finished 2007 on injured reserve after tearing an ACL at midseason.
Washington was terrible defensively in his second season, making his rookie year his only previous positive finish. And even that season ended with Rogers' infamous drop of an interception that he seemed to sure to return for a touchdown that would have put the Redskins ahead 10-0 in a divisional round playoff loss to the eventual NFC champion Seahawks in Seattle.
On the other hand, Rogers doesn't know what to think about the lack of love expressed by owner Dan Snyder, general manager Bruce Allen and coach Mike Shanahan, who declined to tender him at the highest level a year ago and haven't made a serious attempt to re-sign him to a long-term contract since.
"My agent said six teams called last year before I re-signed with the Redskins so I know there'll be interest if I become a free agent," said Rogers, who noted that two of his former Redskins coaches, New Orleans' Gregg Williams and Tennessee's Jerry Gray, are coordinators of defenses that could use a proven cornerback. "I want to stay in Washington, but if I become a free agent, I'm going to be talking to everyone. It's not going to be me automatically going back because I've always been there."

I think for a decent salary, Rogers should be back. I also like Barnes and Hall as long as he has over the top help. Buchanon can go on and do things elsewhere. I think the coaches liked Westbrook enough to keep him as a dimeback....
If we don't address it FA or draft, I wouldn't be opposed to Ricky comin back. He may not be the best fit for 3-4 ILB, but he's not bad. A good NT will make him better. Who ever the NT was the last 2 games wasn't too bad. Good rotation guy IMO.
With the signing of Atogwe, we're set at the safety positions with Barnes/Moore and Reed/Horton as backups.

ShanAllen's MO has been let folks test the market and come back and talk to us. I am sure that they will do the same with Carlos Rogers. I like this style. It let's each party know the truth about how much the player is worth. It is much better than overpaying guys all the time. It worked with O.J. Atogwe. If they really want to be here and we really want them here, they will be here and be here happily.

Depth has been a key issue for the Redskins in recent years, and last year, you could only really say there was quality depth at TE. No other position was "set". With Atogwe we have two very good players with solid depth behind them (Moore, Doughty and Horton) not too shabby.

He'll walk and I wont miss him. He is a good, not great, defender who cant force turnovers. For the money he is going to command, no way I resign him. I would much rather put my money into a Landry extension. I dont think this team can afford another learge contract at CB if they plan to extend Landry.
Mike/Bruce - If your going to spring big this year in Free Agency, please spring big on offensive lineman! I cant watch Rabach anymore!

This is assuming we trade back and pick up an extra 2nd. As a late 1st rounder I picked Houston to play OLB. My 2 2nd rounders were Hudon (LG) and Locker (QB) as I said in the offense thread. I have Powe (NT)being picked in the 5th to compliment Bryant. He is projected as a 4th rounder but his stock is dropping, so maybe he's there or maybe we move up to the 4th to get him.
My Free agents defensively are ILB Stephen Tulloch (solid, young MLB) and DE Cullen Jenkins (very good 3-4 DE)

I agree with this.langleyparkjoe wrote:yall kno im not a big rogers guy but we need to keep him if possible, too many other needs
We have too many holes to try to replace Stone Hands, but if some donk team wants to offer him Danny/Vinny money then I would say Bah Bye, just don't drop your check!
If he wants to come back for a fair sallary then I would be OK with that too.

Agree 100% with this. You can look at the 07 Giants team that won the Super Bowl. They had an OK secondary but an unstoppable pass rush. Steelers also don't have the greatest secondary outside of Polamalu but the pass rush makes that secondary look really good. We desperately need a pass rushing DE, or another OLB to generate a pass rush.Chris Luva Luva wrote:

I think we have so many needs and are more than 1 year away from seeing consistent play from this group
we did not progress as far as I thought we would from the disaster that was evident here in 2009
we need to find a way to add the players that suit a 3-4 defense - that is not happening in one season - this is going to take a little longer and anyone that thinks by getting a little lucky and adding a couple of key players we are suddenly going to "make" this into a playoff contending defense is kidding themselves
I like the fact that we have these guys in charge but they did not do a really good job in handling the transition - we do have some reasons to think that the defense will be better but this really is going to take time
The biggest issue is that this franchise was a shambles - the FO and the staff did not do a very good job in their first year but they were severely handcuffed by dumb and dumber and the players that they were given
I'm afraid we are going to be a work in progress for another year at least

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

No you're not. I don't think he played any better than Barnes/Westbrook, and they're still getting their NFL experience. He's hit his plateau and I don't think we have a use for him.MDSKINSFAN wrote:Am I the only one that thought Buchanon was absolutely horrible last season?
