Chris Hanburger in the HOF

Post by Deadskins »

Didn't see this posted anywhere. Chris is one of two "senior" candidates in the final 15. My guess is that he will get overlooked again, especially with the voters falling all over themselves to induct Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk on their first ballot.

Chris Hanburger's numbers say he is a lock but then again so did Art Monk's.

He should be in. Hopefully they finally put him in.

It's a disgrace that he's not there already-his case is probably even stronger than Art Monk's.

I am glad for Chris Hanburger to be accepted to the brotherhood. It's nice to see that for the past 3 years we've had a former Redskins player make it into the hall of fame.

I had the privilege and pleasure of watching Chris Hanburger play his whole career with the Redskins. His enshrinement in the Hall of fame is truly a well deserved and long overdue honor.

I'll always remember the classic Hanburger tackling technique: grab both of the ball-carrier's feet and stand up, putting the ball-carrier head-down.

And Hanburger was only about 215 pounds, at a time when LBs were 235 or 240. In fact, most FBs were 230.

A great one.

Time for the You-tube experts to find more of Chris Hanburger.

Look at his playing years, and look at the Redskins record. I believe Hanburger arrived, probably undrafted, when Otto (aka "toot") ran the team. Graham didn't care about running the ball, and he didn't care about defense. We had a wild passing team, with Sonny throwing to Charlie Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, and Jerry Smith.

Hanburger and Joe Rutgens and Sam Huff and probably Mean John Paluck and definitely HOF safety Paul Krause were the defense...and Pat Fischer, too. Almost forgot Fischer.

And Hanburger was amazing. Not brute force, just speed and skill and leverage. He was a core of the team that won Washington's loyalty forever.

Hanburger film on being named to HoF.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqhxbdQyyZY

Note the uniforms. I see Joe Rutgens (#72) in one frame. Must be around 1966 or earier.

And, yes, Hanburger would star today. He could stop the run, blitz, play pass defense. It';s not whether how big you are at LB, but wehther a lineman can catch you. Few caught Chris Hanburger.

He was one of my favorites and the Redskins weren't my favorite team yet in the 70s

Chris Hanburger would have been good in any era because he played the game with so much desire - the really great ones all have that

Chris Hanburger belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame and I'm really pleased they finally put him there
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Number 55# was in todays game strong safety size, but he was one of the most feared linebackers on his side during his tenure. His nick name "The Hangman" was within the rules back then, when almost anything went. He played on poor defenses until George Allen got here. I still have my 55 jersey, and glad he is finally getting his due.... Congrads Chris , one of my childhood heros...

I am almost as as happy as I was when Art Monk got in.

And that is ... a pretty darn high statement for me to make people.

Congratulations Hangman!!!
