Anyone else notice?
The physical resemblance between Ryan Torrain and another great Arizona State running back? Every time I see him running in the open field, I feel like I'm watching a ghost from the past...
Watching him, I can't help but wonder if his hands are as good as...
Charley Taylor's.
He has the speed, he has the same kind of ball skills... and, it would reduce the wear and tear of contact at the line...
And, we all know how badly we need a big receiver...

It's Shanahan. As usual, he'd pull a running back out of his butt...
The thing is, Torrain has demonstrated that he's just not that durable. His upright running style, and willingness to drop a shoulder will continue to result in injuries. Moving him to WR would reduce his contact, AND get us a big, fast receiver with YAC skills.
Whether they actually do it or not, it would be cool to see them play with it during the off season.

Since Williams is a 3rd down back, I'd think that his hands aren't that good.Countertrey wrote:It's Shanahan. As usual, he'd pull a running back out of his butt...

Perhaps... but, that's still an assumption. There are other reasons for using one back as your preferrence on third down... for instance, while he's only an inch shorter, he runs with a much lower center of gravity, giving him more of an ability to hide behind linemen and to change directions... than Torrain. We know that Shanahan values this, as well as soft hands, in a third down back. If the two are approx equal, Shanahan would go with Williams.
At any rate, I was watching film of Taylor banging db's and busting tackles, and immediately saw Torrain...
Just dreamin' a bit.

Dunno... I've watched him running away from DB's on a few of those long runs...Deadskins wrote:Not sure Torain is fast enough to play WR.
But, it's also true that he wouldn't have Sonny hitting him when he was most open and able to pick up YAC...

Player just don't convert positions like that any more. The idea of taking a HB now and splitting them out is kind of silly. Though, it's interesting to note that if you move Reggie Bush on Madden 2011 from HB to WR that his overall rating takes a huge jump.

We build a line for a running back. Petersons don't "grow on trees" but look at all the Super Bowl winners this decade and see how many simply had a decent back. Remember Timmy Smith?TCIYM wrote:Love the idea but what do we do for a running back?

It's really not silly for players to convert positions like that. Orakpo was a defensive lineman his hold live until he was drafted by the Redskins and moved to linebacker. That wasn't silly, however converting all of your D Ends to LB might be a little bit silly (might be a lot silly).
Percy Harvin is a converted RB playing WR and doing a pretty good job at it when he can stay on the field. Being banged up like the Vikings were this year, even Peterson spent a lot of time lined up wide. Bush played WR for a go stretch last year and was just as productive as he was at RB.

Maybe it's a daydream... not as long or persistent as a dream
If that's the case then you might see it, just like we saw the Wildcat being run at FedEx by the home team.
If the QB goes out wide, when Banks becomes the signal caller why can't the RB?
The question is can Banks throw a football.

I agree with this. He needs to learn how to run lower to the ground. He is too upright with the ball. He needs to focus on this in the offseason.Countertrey wrote: The thing is, Torrain has demonstrated that he's just not that durable. RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.
