There is nothing laid back. He has a quick tempo and he gets us to the ball as fast as he can get us to the ball."

Maybe McNabb doesn't prepare like he should during the week and committed himself to running the offense efficiently. There was a stark contrast between Rex and Donovan getting in and out of the huddle. Rex was in and out while McNabb always looked like he was lallygagging most of the time. You can contribute that to whatever you want, but the fact remains Rex had the best day of a redskins quarterback all year. McNabb has more talent, but Grossman showed he wants to start and I can see why he earned a start this week. I think its clear that the Shanahan's made a mistake in bringing McNabb here, but it seems like they know what they are looking for in terms of production and accountability.
It's good that Rex is getting this feedback... so, now there's some current film on him... let's see how he does when teams can game plan him.

Some were vocal about their disappointment in the decision to bench McNabb. They don't have to come out and praise Rex in any more than generic terms. If we see more specifics like this it will be a sign that at least Rex has gained a bit of respect in the eyes of his teammates.

The McNabb benching is a symptom of a larger issue, constant change and complete lack of consistency offensively, defensively, and even on special teams. McNabb was brought in specifically by this head coach and then pulled. Grossman is a career backup and a known screw-up and my first inclination is that the players are thinking: "Holy, Umm, Moses! I didn't know Rex had it in him to play like that!" Obviously (Has Mike Shanahan patented this word yet?) they aren't going to say anything that makes their teammate sound like an incompetent boob. So we are getting what we are reading instead. Granted they don't have to be more than effusive but I also think the players know they have not seen the last of Rex.
This coaching staff took a "chance" on McNugget. Took a chance that they would get the good from DM (not the bad and the ugly). Through 13 games and much patience (hoping for a turn around) and wishing that DM would quicken his pace and tempo.....BUT it just didn't pan out.
I don't fault the coaches for benching DM....it was due time. McNug won't be here past game 16 of this season.

You must own stock in Shanahan Inc. This pair really should be accountable for their impulsive buying.

So, a lot of what you said I agree with. Switching O linemen didn't help. Dock should have stayed in my unimportant opinion and having some old guy wide out that should have never made the roster and so forth....Way to many mistakes and like I said MacNabb is overrated!!!! Give him the tools a vet deserves and he will be ok.

McNabb's game versus Houston might be the best one by a Redskins QB this season. That's arguable. What is not arguable is the two draft picks squandered on Mike Shanahan's mistake, and the trade value squandered on Mike Shanahan's mistake, and the lack of accountability. No one should get a free pass for squandering two draft picks.

I have to agree with Countertrey on this one. One of the first things ShanAllen set out to do is change the old bad habits of the Redskins - one was the wild spending sprees during the off-season - GREAT JOB! They did it! You would think the next thing they would do is protect their draft choices and change the bad habit of trading them away. They were great in the Jamaal Brown trade. That was a need and he was pro bowl caliber and the price was right. I felt that McNabb was an upgrade on Campbell, but here is where I have the problem - Shanahan has emphasized all season that practice habits are very important and that work ethic is of extreme importance - He had those qualities in Jason Campbell. McNabb had a reputation for being lackadaisial. The only thing I can come up with is Mike's ego got in the way and did do some impulsive buying. I read on another thread that Shanahan may have made the trade w/o consulting Kyle. If this be true, he needs to be held accountable for giving away two draft choices unnecessarily, so that he doesn't do it again.

I was opposed to the decision, but I agree Rex played fine. He did nothing to make Shannahan's decision look bad or embarrass himself. But I still think McNabb's a better quarterback and I think the O should be playing together for the ones who are still here.

I think the reports about McNabb's reputation for practice habits are way overstated. Shanahan could have done his due diligence and not come to realize just how bad the situation was. And besides, a player like McNabb (if he's the class act and pro everyone attests to him being) should be able to take it up a notch if the coaches feel he is underperforming during the week. It sounds like the coaches have been trying to work with him all season and, for whatever reason, things just haven't come together. Well, go back to week one and this result couldn't have been obvious to anyone. So it's not right to suggest that Shanahan was totally blind on the way things turned out.

He is a class act mostly. I will never forget when we beet them in Zorns first year for the second time I believe. He said something like- "We were the better team and they were lucky to beat us" Ok, so, this isn't an exact quote but pretty close to it. Even their coach and their running back said we were the better team that day. Everyone had class that day except him (MacNabb) I like him though as a Redskin. He has been all year a class act. I was waiting for him to say something stupid like that but he never did.
As far as practice habits.... TO said that he always had that problem. I posted it but because it came from TO no one gave it any credence.

You make some good points. However, I think that what should have tipped off Shanahan is that the Eagles were willing to trade McNabb within the division. I can't think of another situation where a team traded their starting qb to rival in recent years. And it's not like Andy Reid is an idiot. He is well regard as a player personnel guy so his willingness to trade McNabb to the Skins should have raised some red flags.

He started in Chicago and led them to a SB.
You think Grossman led them and I think the Defense did. The stats are on my side...
Yup... it was basically like the year of the Ravens SB victory... the job of the quarterback was "Don't screw it up".

When are you all going to put some responsibility/accountability on McNug? He's not without blame here.
It wasn't so much that Grossman threw four touchdown passes, the first time a Redskins quarterback has done such a thing since 2005, or that the Redskins put up 30 points for the first time in 16 games. It was that Grossman mounted such sustained drives. The scoring chart looked like this: they went 78 yards, 71 yards, 78 yards, and 56 yards. It was the smoothest and most rhythmic they've looked all season.
The word from inside Redskins Park was that the Shanahans have been frustrated for weeks by the fact that McNabb either couldn't or wouldn't absorb Kyle Shanahan's offense and make the correct reads, and that he only wanted to do the things that made him comfortable. His inflexibility limited the play-calling options, and his inconsistency too often put them in difficult long-yardage situations. Hence, he never improved in 13 games. Those judgments now seem correct
