Grossman rumor - may start against the Pukes

Post by SkinsJock »

is this really possible?

http://nfl-facts-and-rumors.blogs.cbssp ... 8/26449546

OR is this just the normal anti establishment BS that we have to put up with around here?
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Grossman has been rumored to start every game since McNabb was benched ... does it really even matter at this point?

I think we should see what this offense looks like with him if we plan to keep McNabb, or him as a back-up. If we plan to spend a high draft pick on a QB, I would kind of like to know what Grossman brings to the table before doing so. I think this makes sense in my opinion. See what else we have.

I find it hard to believe he will start, but I find it believeable that he will play. Here's how I take it, Kyle has been itching to get his man Rex in since pre-season. I think that Mike wants to give Kyle what he wants because he doesn't want to see Kyle falter as OC - the blame goes to McNabb. Everyone can agree that McNabb is the better QB, but McNabb by his own admission before the Lion's game said that he only knows 70% of the offense (of course it has to be more now) and McNabb is clearly hurting - notice he has been hesitant to scramble and he is clearly not the elusive guy in the pocket he was at the beginning of the season.
This would be as good as time as any to insert Rex - knows offense better, he is as mobile as a hurt McNabb EXCEPT one problem for the fans - IT IS DALLAS! How do you start Rex when you are facing the Nemesis, Archrival with a capital "A," hated Cowboys!

Don't get them wrong, they want to beat Dallas as bad as the fans, but they think that Rex under the above mentioned conditions might be the better option. Can you blame them, does anyone think that we will beat Dallas with a McNabb who isn't mobile? No. Does anyone think that we will beat Dallas with Rex? No. So what do we have to lose?

Here's the deal. The Shanahan's are trying to cook up a reason how they can do this without the fallout if it doesn't work like what happened during the Lion's game. Shanahan has already said in his Monday presser that QB's don't tell the truth about their injuries. McNabb continues to refuse to play along by saying that he is 100%.

Out of respect to your starting QB, if he wants to play and he can stand up and throw, he is supposed to start - like they always give Brett Favre.

I would say all the talk right now is a testing of the waters to gauge public opinion. My guess is unless the Shanahans can expose Donovan's injuires, McNabb will start, but he will be on a short lease and it won't even be close to waiting until two minutes in the first half.

OTOH, if the Redskins beat Dallas, with Grossman at the helm...

think about how much more that would hurt...

Frankly, I think it may be time to let McNabb start healing.

Hey Chiefhog44, I agree that we need to see what the offense looks like under Rex, but do you do this for the rival game? Can't you wait next week for Jacksonville who though whupped Dallas something fearce aren't as good as the red hot cowboys post Wade Phillips era?

Personally I think its a rumor.

Unless you know for a certainty that Rex will give us wins I'd rather have Mcnugget in there because i think he'll get us 8-8. Why I need to see Rex now? That's just crazy to me.

8-8? Wow! That is optimism. No matter who is QB for the Skins, Shanahan better coach is behind off and Haslett too. Haslett schemed Dallas the first game. Does he have something else up his sleeve? I can hear Kyle saying, Daddy, I have something up my sleeve, but Donovan is in my way. 8-8? I don't see that, but I would love to see it even if it costs us draft positions - it's about pride!

Who cares. This is a meaningless game. I know it's Dallas, but really? Neither team is in the hunt, and quite honestly, I'd probably rather lose to get a better draft pick and give Garrett a better chance of winning the head coaching position than say Cohwer or Gruden. Also, I'd rather see what he can do over three games rather then two. More of an evaluation.

I don't have a problem with Gorssman starting even in the Dallas game either. The way Donovan is playing, we don't have much of a chance to win anyway, so we might as well see what we have in Grossman. He has played in a Super Bowl so he shouldn't feel too much pressure except Ratliff bearing down on his head. There better be some kind of game plan for blocking schemes to protect any Redskin starting QB or we will be evaluating Beck before the game is over.

For crying out loud, LPJ's fantasies aside  , we'll be very fortunate to win one more game. We're going to get the QB controversy anyway (because, you know the "Campell is great" crowd is going to flock to "I'm going deep" Grossman)... might as well have some juice to it. And, it would be nice to be able to say to anyone listening "the 'pukes lost to Grossman" followed up by a hearty "BWHAAAAAAAAA"

I take it you live in DC. To the rest of the world, it's meaningless. It's only meaningful (IMO) if something is on the line, and since neither team is going to make the playoffs, how is this a meaningful game? Pride? Whatever, I'll take a better draft pick and a chance to see our backup against a rival.

Playing Dallas is a meaningless game? Pride has no place in pro football? There's nothing important about winning a divisional game per se? There's nothing interesting about one of the most storied rivalries in the NFL?

IF they're considering Grossman, I take it that they think he's giving them the better QB at this time and for this game

I do not think that McNabb will like it but I also think that Mike thinks that McNabb isn't able to get it done right now

It could also be a bit of gamesmanship

I don't think there's even a small chance that Grossman can show Mike that he's a better option at QB than a "healthy" McNabb

I'm sure that McNabb is our starting QB in 2011 and hopefully we'll have an NFL season

There's not a chance in the world that the players AND coaches think about anything but finding a way to win the next game - why do people keep hinting that it might be "better" to lose a game

I'm with you, man. And I will fully admit I did not mind losing to the Bucs by 1 point this weekend thinking about that draft pick in April.

Dallas, Eagles, Giants. We gotta win those games. Yeah maybe the playoffs are out for us this year. But we can still pile on Dallas and help give them a miserable season to remember, and it won't be surprising if the Giants are in a must win game when the come to Fedex in a few weeks. Those are still games worth playing!

We aren't talking about missing out on the #1 pick here. We are talking about the #10 pick or thereabouts. Cam Newton, Julio Jones, Ryan Mallett should all still be there, and a large number of linemen on both sides are there in the later first and second rounds. We won't get Andrew Luck or Patrick Peterson but we wouldn't have landed either unless we sucked a lot harder than five wins. Six wins doesn't make any difference to our needs and who will be available that fills those needs so, bearing in mind that Dallas was one of the few stadiums that was dead silent for Sean Taylor and always respecting them for that, I still think we should be playing to win the game. Intentionally losing to anyone is lame but intentionally losing to Dallas is like being force fed one's own testicles.

you have to lose all the games and hope someone else wins 1 - that sounds like a great way to get the first pick

LOOK - we are not really affecting our draft much at all by winning 2 of the next 3 anymore than if we lose all 3 - the fact is we might be in the same draft position with either scenario happening

I'm afraid I cannot see a difference and I certainly don't think players or coaches will play to lose - so I just think it shows a stupid approach as a fan to think that

in other words - fans that think their team will have a better draft pick by losing games are stupid - in my very humble opinion - if you want your team to lose you are not really a fan - so go ahead and declare your stupidity to the other fans here, those of you that think the team should lose the next game to guarantee a better draft pick
