McDaniels done in Denver

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

McDaniels done in Denver

Post by Skinsfan55 »

It was about time. Spygate, poor people skills (with players and coaches) and his aggressive nature with trades... none of that added up to a long term relationship. Bad news for Timmy Tebow here, the one guy in the league who really thought he could start at QB is no longer his coach.

Not only was he a terrible coach, he drove almost all of the offensive talent they were building on out of there right away with Marshall and Cutler. He has set that franchise back. He kind of reminds me of Zorn; got out to a fast start and then just stunk. Trading picks to get Tebow and drafting him in the first place was a horrible move.

Wow. Three coaches fired mid-season. I don't remember there ever being a year like this.

Exactly, not only was Timmy a reach, but he gave up a lot to get him... picks that could have been used to build the team.

Also, here's a quick list of guys he gave up... some for pennies on the dollar, or nothing:

QB Jay Cutler, young pro-bowl player, struggled last season in a new offense but now leading the Bears to a winning season.

RB Peyton Hillis, powerful runner. Already has 11 TD's, and as a little bit of trivia he's also on his way to being the first caucasian rusher to top 1,000 yards since Craig James 1985.

WR Brandon Marshall, elite wide receiver, struggling with new team but has three straight 1,000 yard seasons and will possibly hit 1,000 this season too.

C Casey Weigmann, Denver is having a terrible time running the ball, and Weigmann is dominating in KC.

Pretty much a whole offense there... and he gave up a bunch of picks in the 2011 draft. He sure made a mess of things.

McDaniels was lucky to make it this far - he seemed to be an all-singing, all dancing, 24 carat loon. He made some appalling decisions, and seemed to think that he was the second coming of Bill Belichick. He isn't - he's closer to the second coming of Bill Cosby.

Exactly, he brought in Belichick's "My way or the highway" attitude... which only works if you have something to back it up. He didn't realize how badly he needed Cutler, Marshall, Hillis, Weigmann, etc. He just laid out an ultimatum and if they didn't like it, they were gone. Imagine an offense... even with Orton leading it that had Moreno, Hillis, Lloyd and Marshall. They would dominate... but McD gave them away.

To be fair, the Broncos got a lot in return for Cutler.

Think the Broncos might go for a Shanahan/Haynesworth package deal? :P

What can you say... all those years with Bellichick (like him or not, the man is a coaching virtuoso... nobody can do more with a team than him), and all McDaniels seemed to take from it was "Be Arrogant, and you will win superbowls...

Well... it appears that there was more to it than just being an arrogant punk...

man oh man - it would be fun to have Shanahan go and make another franchise successful like Bill did when he left Cleveland and ended up in NE and the stupid/doubting Cleveland fans thought he was a hopeless case

fortunately for me he's going to stay here and get this franchise back in gear - I'm looking forward to reminding a lot of guys here about their lack of confidence in our FO and Mike Shanahan in particular :D

Denver made a mistake with this guy - he just is not ready to be a good HC and might never be
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
