DeANGELO HALL NAMED NFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. –
The National Football League announced today that Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a Week 7 win over Chicago.

Against the Bears, Hall intercepted four passes, one of which he returned 92 yards for a touchdown. The feat tied an NFL and Redskins record. Hall became the 19th NFL player and third Redskin to record four interceptions in the same game. He is the first NFL player to do so since Denver’s Deltha O’Neal on Oct. 7, 2001. Sammy Baugh (11/14/43 vs. Detroit) and Dan Sandifer (10/31/48 vs. Boston) were the other Redskins to do so.

Hall’s 92-yard interception return for a touchdown was the longest of his career and tied for the third-longest in Redskins history. Barry Wilburn owns the franchise record with a 100-yard touchdown return against Minnesota on Dec. 26, 1987. Dick Poillon had the second-longest in team history with a 93-yard return against Philadelphia on Nov. 21, 1948.

Coupled with his 32-yard fumble return for a touchdown in Week 1 against Dallas, Hall became the first Redskins defender to score two defensive touchdowns in the same season since Andre Collins in 1994. It was Hall’s third career interception for a touchdown and his sixth career defensive return for a touchdown.

This marks the first time that Hall has won NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors and is the first Redskins cornerback to win the award since Champ Bailey did so following Week 4 of the 2003 season. Hall is the seventh different Redskins cornerback to win the award, and this is the 12th time a Redskins cornerback has been honored.

Since the NFL started awarding weekly honors in 1984, a Redskins player has won 78 times, including 31 NFC Defensive Player of the Week awards. Safety LaRon Landry was the most recent before Hall as he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week following Week 5 of this season.

Still can't get over the game he had. Best game performance I have ever seen from a defensive back. He even had seven tackles.
