Let's have a Tea Party on November 2
The last time I voted for Republicans was November 8, 1988. Yes, I knew HW was no RR, but I hoped he'd learned something from him and would continue his policies. By 1990, it was clear that wasn't the case and I no longer voted for the Democrat Lite Party the Republicans decided to be. Other then a flicker of light for 100 days in early 1995, there was no hope and that one ended on the one hundred and first day when the Contract With America time-line was over and all the Republicans swept into office on it decided it was better to be a Washington insider with a lifetime job.
So now finally a group has come in and campaigned on the simple and obvious concept of cut taxes and spending and they seem to mean it. The overwhelming response belies the crap for 22 years the Republicans spewed that to beat Democrats we need to become like them. In fact being like them in everything but social issues and being scary there has just meant endless minority status for them. And even in the one brief moment they held the White House and both chambers Democrats Lite is still what they were.
So, frankly we really do have nothing more to lose then what the pathetic two parties are already taking from us and we really need to send a message that we actually do want lower spending and lower taxes. So for the first time in 22 years, vote Republican, and particularly vote for any tea party candidate. The Republican establishment is even moving against them, there's something pretty positive in that and it's a pretty good indication that this time their feet are going to be held to the fire...and they know it.

I would rather drink my own pee rather than have any of that tea. The tea party is only looking out for "White America" who hold onto their bibles shouting racist derogatory comments about "BHO" and other minorities. I already know this to be true, because one side my family is a bunch of bigot tea partiers who cannot stand our black president or black people. They want to "take our country back" and I ask them take it back to what? Unadulterated white privilege? The tea party sickens me as they are a bunch of con artists scamming the lemmings who follow the Likes of Beck and Palin.
They are the same bible thumpers who don't mind dropping bombs on countries "in defense of America," but to hell with trying to provide healthcare for someone who is suffering from a medical disease. Fraudulent "Christians." WWJD?

What does cutting taxes and spending have to do with "race?"

Dear Cappster, as a "minority" belonging to the Chrisitian faith, who attended the Tea Party rally against ObamaCare (how's THAT looking right now?), I find your comments, simplistic, rude, derogatory, and, most of all, ignorant.
Disagreeing with Obama and his policies is no more racist than hurling insults at Bush for ten years (his eight in office, plus the two years of a presidency based on "change") ever was.
It's funny to think that the "War on Terror" did more to unify the nation than the empty mantra of "Hope and Change" ever will.

In the end, Obama was just "hoping" for "change."

It is sad when people say all that nonsense based on what they heard by a group's enemy rather then doing any independent verification of their own and yet state it with such conviction. Enemies of the tea party walk around talking pictures mostly of themselves in get up and maybe find some fringe nuts (every group has them) and then try to say it's representative of the group ignoring 99% of the members and the entire message.
I don't agree with the tea party on everything. I oppose the "war on terror" for example and they are pro-life and I'm pro-choice, but they are focusing on economy where I'm with them and cutting taxes and spending.
The thing with the other side just calling anyone who disagrees with them on any issue and they start pointing fingers and saying racists...racists....racists.... is just old though and sadly plays into the hands of real racists because everyone's getting to the point of ignoring the boy who called wolf.

I am speaking from my own personal experience with tea baggers. And from my experience most are religious right wing pro white America bigots. The social implications of a tea bagged America are worse then what we have already.

Religion, race, and politics are always tied together, unfortunately. It's just the way it is, because the tea party wants to bring "God" back into America. I believe in Jesus (not in the traditional church control way) and what he has done, but I don't believe in forcing my beliefs on other people. God is different to a Muslim, Buddist, etc.. then it is to a Christian. The war on terror has been a success on failure. We are always, as a nation, trying to force feed our ideologies onto other nations of people which causes more hate and resentment. No surprise I guess, because that is what happens in this country.
We won't know how "obamacare" will unfold until it is put into action. I am not a fan of the way it was pushed through in legislation, but he did what he said he was going to do if he was elected. People still voted him in (I did not vote for him) and now they want to complain about it.

Someone's screwing with you. Social right wingers have plenty of home in the Republican party. The tea party are dominated by fiscal conservatives who are sick of the tax and spending. They are represented by the candidates who are the same. None of the major tea party candidates are highlighting social issues, so why would those people love them so much? It makes no sense. And even if you're in some sort of intellectual cul de sac, why would you ignore the national movement for a few people you know who don't even get the cause they're supporting?

Then that's just scary. Once they get voted into office, they will have to deal with social issues, so it would be nice to know where they stand on them, before casting your vote, no?

Actually Congress has very little to do with social issues. Can you name some off the top of your head that Senators and Representatives actually control? Not many. On the other hand, they are burying us with spending, that they do control.

I have a hard time seeing why one should believe them, though.

Well, what if you help elect a bunch of Republicans and they act like Republicans? You seem to think that since 1988 the empty promises of certain conservative political movements have been negatives. I can see why: it'd be better not to put any support behind someone than vote them in on false promises.
It doesn't seem cynical to me to think that these are false promises. If we take the rhetoric at face value, these candidates are basically promising what we've heard for the X hundredth or thousandth time — to do what no movement in American politics has done for at least a century and a half. In our political and cultural climate, I just don't see how a handful of outsider candidates are going to cut government in any meaningful way.
And that's assuming that they keep their word. In order to assume that, I have to put aside the problem that they are claiming to be pro-small-government yet also won't drastically reduce and/or end our wars. I also have to assume that, though they look and act like politicians taking advantage of an opportune moment, they should be trusted to bring change to Washington.
Anyway, my point is that I have a fairly high standard before I can consider voting for someone, and I really don't see why I'm supposed to get behind this movement any more than I should have gotten behind Obama's campaign promises. I'd be willing to bet that two years from now the (principled) Tea Party supporters are going to be as disappointed in their guys as the (principled) Obama supporters are with the current president.

I don't think that's true. Would you wait to "see how it unfolds" before stopping your child from putting his fingers into an electrical socket?
Well, the thing is the majority of people voted Obama and his ideologies into office so the majority of the nation is getting what they asked for. I can only hope for the best possible outcome. If it came down to paying for war or paying for everyone to get treatment for an illness, I am going to choose the latter.

NO! The "majority" of Americans, at least the living ones who voted (can't speak for the dead ones who probably voted for him, too) were sold a bill of goods that, upon further review, is NOT what they wanted.
Why do you think the "majority" now opposes many, if not all of his policies?
Case in point, Obama pandered to the Latino vote, by promising immigration reform (whatever THAT might be) and has turned his back on those promises, other than the occasional photo op. In Spanish, someone like that is called a "mentiroso", a liar, but you can't call him that, or else you get the Joe Wilson treatment from the media.
November 2 can't come soon enough, IMO.

Um no, there are hundreds of state level positions also being contested on November 2, so what's your point? Besides, even if you are only talking about federal seats up for grabs, a lot of the taxing and spending goes towards social issues, so a lack of knowledge, as to where Tea Party candidates stand on social issues, is still kinda scary, don't you think?.

(Follow-up, would you hate them less if they had said "Allahu Akbar" instead of "in Jesus' Name" before detonating?)

You have a problem with tea partiers "telling you how to live your life," but you have NO PROBLEM allowing Mr. Obama FORCIBLY taking more outta your pocket to essentially tell you where you can live, what you can buy, and what you should eat?
Remind those in government on November 2 that freedom isnt free, so can they please stop taking more of your hard earned cash??

The blown up houses I was referring to are in Afghanistan, Iraq, and anywhere else tea partiers would send a MOAB even if it means "collateral damage." The US needs to let other cultures be themselves without forcing our influence onto them. Forcing ideology onto a culture = more harbored resentment towards the US.
Where did I ever say that I don't mind Obama taking my money? I stated if I had to choose to pay for a war to blow people to smithereens or help pay for healthcare for everyone I would choose the latter. I am not, however, against defense spending to protect the homeland. See Redeemed, the only way I think a Capitalistic society can survive is to have social elements built into it so the parity between poor and rich has some sort of relevance. Socialism doesn't work on its own nor does a purely capitalistic bug business society. There has to be a middle ground where the best of both economic models works for all of society.

let me re-phrase this statement from its particular context to its universal application to the ENTIRE realm of politicians and political movements:
... I'd be willing to bet that two years from now the (principled) [name whatever politician or political movement] supporters are going to be as disappointed in their guys as the (principled) [name whatever politician or political movement] supporters are with the current [name whatever politician or political movement].
It is extremely frustrating for any truly serious voter to cast a vote with enthusiasm and support for anybody everywhere in the world. It appears as if we vote thinking we can do the least damage.
I am sure democracy works and all ... I just see some of the democratic institutions so deformed and the representative government system so embedded in a vicious circle that "change", whatever that word means this day, is almost unattainable regardless of political persuasion.
In any event, I come here ONLY to discuss the Washington Redskins and this is a little sidetrack.
