I know Portis is aging and IMO has been a great back for years. The skins have a few new faces and seem to be putting the starting job up for grabs. I for one will not be as happy to see Portis get less reps in the offense. There are advantages, as we all know he is aging and a rotation may keep him around longer. Portis has always been presented with new situations and he has done well, I think, in those situations. So odds are he will succeed in a rotation type situation. I just do not feel he is finished like most say, then again he is close and it comes down to either one or two real strong years or four years with a limited role. He is personally my favorite back post any thoughts, facts, opinions or info concerning what we will all see from him this year and in coming years.
I love watching and waiting to see what the hecks going on.

I think Larry has the most left in his legs. Not that he's great or anything.

I'm game for CP starting and letting Larry finish the game. I'm also kinda hoping we ditch (notso)fast Willie and picking up Westbrook. We know that McNabb likes Westbrook, and he's GREAT receiving out of the backfield. I think it would be a win-win provided Westbrook doesn't want the world.

I say cut Parker & don't sign Westbrook. Keep a young RB.

Vet , I know with Westbrook in the game on third downs we would have an ideal situation to connect with him via a dump off from Mcnabb, with this in mind, the split backs formation is going to keep defenses on there hills and open up alot of third and 7 or longer ( maybe at times much longer situations) With our offensive line the way it is we may as well keep the more savy more experienced backs and that includes Mcnabb; {don't go young at RB yet}...Westbrook may very well be the best option Chemistry wise for the 3rd down passing senario-- this I believe will give the skins more deminsions on offense and keep our line from getting crashed on some passing situation. especially with Portis in the backfield to help block.

We need to develop a young RB, the sooner the better.

They want Westbrook as Portis, Johnson and Parker are not good receivers out of the backfield.

My 4 slots at RB will be filled with:

1) Portis -- for sure

2) Westbrook -- hopefully our 3rd down back. McNabb knows him, that's a good thing.

3) Johnson or Parker (leaning toward Johnson because of his size but honestly, I can't decide as I haven't seen either one enough to assess.)

4) Ryan Torain or Keiland Williams -- we'll keep one young back based on their special teams play.

I'm wondering if we could trade Parker to Seattle since they dumped White and don't have much in the backfield?? I'd take a late round pick, 4 or 5 maybe!

Next year we need to get a good young RB in the draft.

Makes sense. From what I've read, Parker's tank is empty. I doubt we can get anything for him. Maybe Torain or Williams will step up this year & we won't need to draft a RB.

I have to say Portis to start, and to get majority playing time. We don't know how our Oline will hold up, I'd like CP out there for his blocking to try keep McNabb upright.

Actually CP isn't bad out of the backfield. he's no Westbrook, but he's made some good catches.

I say wait and see how training camp goes. I want the guy with the best work ethic and the right attitude. That means I am biased against Portis because I think he is an underachiever and does not elevate the game of the people around him. But in this new system, and with McNabb in charge, maybe Portis will be the best choice. Wait and see.

I really do not even like Portis. When he is on the field he does give it his all though. Too bad he can’t be respected by lots of people (me included) off the field. I like his heart but I am hoping that Johnson, a different style back, can be that rusher that can get 4 yards on 3rd and 4…I know most here will disagree but Portis can’t do it. He might be able to catch a short pass and make it happen but rarely does he get the tough yards that we need. Johnson hopefully can be that every down back. Yes Johnson has problems off the field also. In my opinion the last really good back we had was Steven Davis.

I think that both Kyle & Mike want to have someone back there that can help McNabb - the reason we seem to be looking at so many RBs at this time is that we are not going to be 'short' on talent at this position - I also think that this competiion will help and there are no 'favorites' here anymore

I really don't care too much for Portis' antics both off the field and his apparent disdain for practicing too much but I love his talent AND I do think he's going to be a lot better because of what and who have been brought in here to both get his attention and to ensure that everyone on this whole team understands that nobody (even a really good/great RB like Portis) is guaranteed anything with the new guys in charge here

I am looking/hoping that we see a lot more 'effort' and 'production' out of a lot of talented players than we have seen in the recent past
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Some people on here have extremely short memories. Portis has carried this team offensively for a number of years and pretty much lead us to the playoffs singlehandedly in 2005. CP has been here for 6 seasons, in 4 of which he posted 1200 yards or more, all with mediocre line play and generally ineffective passing games. In his 6 years here, he's also had 4 years of at least 325 carries, which is unheard of in today's NFL. He's been a workhorse for us and it's ridiculous to minimize what he's accomplished on the field as a Redskin.
