New season, same ol' crappy team
I can tell after watching game one this team hasn't changed a bit, except for maybe the defense being worse at tackling than last year. Campbell still looks like he doesn't know what he's doing, and the turnovers and penalties are worse than ever. I know it's only week one, but this team has the same exact look as last year's team. They are going nowhere except for straight to the basement of the NFC East. Now go ahead and bash me like you always do because I didn't come in here and paint a rosey picture of this team. I'm not going to be apollogetic for telling it like it is.

You know, you could join another rival board and have a rosier reception if that's what you want. It's not like you post anything positive anyway.

Ok, I agree with you to a point. Yes, our defense can do a better job overall, however they did good enough to win this game. They allowed only 16 points, they caused 2 turnovers, one they set up our offense at the Giant's 11 yardline, and the defense made a huge stand in the beginning of the second quarter keeping the Giant's lead to 3 points. Where I completly agree with you is our offense. It's the same as last year, and the year's before. Jason Campbell made numerous mistakes and our offense was undeciplined. It's amazing to me how our offense continues to play so BAD, and there are so many excuses, and then the defense gives up 16 points and they get ripped on. The Giant's had the ball for atleast 36 minutes in the game and the defense held them to 16 points. The excuses are running out for Jason Campbell and this offense. Either get the job done, or it's gonna be a long season, and Jim Zorn and Jason Campbell may not make through the season.grampi wrote:I can tell after watching game one this team hasn't changed a bit, except for maybe the defense being worse at tackling than last year. Do you actually write new posts, or just copy old ones? Just asking...

It is TUESDAY. The posters had a time to cool down. They are looking at a weak opponent and they call it the lowly this and lowly that team. They have raised their hopes and as the week progresses until Saturday, it will reach a crescendo with claims to NFC East Champions and a possible Superbowl trip!
These claims would be outrageous of course but that is the culture of a fan. We lick our wounds and get ourselves ready for the next challenge. It is early in the season and this team has overcome more difficult obstacles in its history. You are a long-term fan. You know that.
So, yes you are right. The Team first show was a disappointment. No news there. The question is: Can this team overcome adversity over the next few weeks?
If the answer is yes, watch out. They might have a winning season.
If they lose this weekend, you will have all of the sudden a lot of sympathisers and supporteres in this board.
BUT ... and as of this minute ... your sense of timing sucks big time.

To address your view of "the fan" -- which I agree with --- I am just waiting to see how this board reacts when this team is 4-2 or 5-1 going into week 7. People are going to be talking NFC East Champions, first week bye, etc.
The reality, though, is that the solid record will have more to do with scheduling then our performance. I do think that this team is decent, but we saw last sunday how they will fare against the top teams in the league. We are playing 4 of the worst defenses in the NFL over the next 5 weeks and the potential for this team to score 20+ points per game is high (which will be about double what the offense has averaged over the past 12 weeks). Now, for me personally, an offensive production of anywhere from 20-25 ppg average will be a disapointment based on the defenses we will face in that time period --- a good offense will put up 30+ points against Detroit, the Rams, Carolina, and Kansas City. I am sure I will reiterate this point after week 6 and people will call me crazy saying the offense has rebounded and I am a downer. We'll see.
Now after our bye week, we play 9 difficult games. After watching Oakland, I was impressed. But, then again, maybe SD isn't as good as advertised. I hope that is the case. These 9 games will determine where we are. I am not going to be high on this team because they beat up on 4 of the worst teams in the league --- and I apologize now as this board is VERY optimistic. Regardless, we'll see the true resolve of this squad in the final 9 games --- and in this board.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Well, this is partially true. I will try to explain ...
The Redskins will have a few less complicated games next. They are expected to win most of these if not all. These games represent an opportunity to become comfortable and get ready for the tougher part of the schedule later on. It remains to be seen if
a) they actually get more comfortable and tuned up over the next few less complicated games; and
b) they take advantage of these games to prepare against the top teams, certainly our opponents in the NFC East.
These two objectives are not easy but they can be done. I do not wish to fall into a complacent mood and take for granted EVERY game during the next three weeks. We could lose any or several of those games with poor game planning, turnovers, etc...
The season is all of the sudden interesting because the character of the team will be tested early on. I have no doubt that they will fight hard and I hope that they do not fall into playing down to the poor quality of their opponents.
Overall, I still remain a believer that this is a 8 - 8 team right where we thought they would be. It is not a disaster and they will give us some great games. They are not playoff material until they prove otherwise with the FINAL W/L record.
Peace.

I can live with your assessment of my assessment of the defense, but you gotta admit there was A LOT of sorry a$$ excuses for tackling going on out there by our defense. As for the offense, what a pathetic joke. Until this year I was sticking up for JC because I thought he had potential. I now think he's the problem and he will never realize his potential. He's not getting any better and we should certainly be seeing improvement in his play by now if he was going to improve. As long as this pathetic offense keeps taking the field, the team will continue to average a measly 10-17 points of offense per game.......a figure that isn't going to generate many wins.
doom and gloom boys. come on man. sure campbell wasnt the best in that game. he made the one mistake of throwing the pass when he was in front of the line of scrimage.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that the giants had ONLY 3 healthy corners and our receivers couldnt get open. Cory webster COMPLETELY OWNED santana and everyone wants to put all of this on jason. malcolm kelly was nowhere to be found.
He had to resort to ARE in the slot so many times because our receivers could not create separation.

In case you've not noticed, ARE is, in fact, a slot receiver, and a pretty good one. He was out of position here as a #2 and he still performed adequately. I'm comfortable with ARE/Cooley being our receivers with the most receptions. It's not my first choice, but these guys are quality if used in the right capacity.

Or when he burned multiple timeouts leaving us without them at the end of the game when we needed them most?

Grampi.. remember that 6-2 start last year? Remember we lost the first game against the Giants last year? Remember when almost everyone after the first game made similar threads like yours? Remember how those threads turned around when we started winning?
I guess I had no comment after all, only questions huh?
See, I did it again huh? More questions right?
Seriously dudes/dudettes, let's just wait till the end of the season before we start griping. Heck, I am making sure I don't post anything negative this year even with JC's mistakes and all the other things I found to be a pain my butt. HAVE FAITH GRAMPS!

Yea that certainly tells the whole story of JC's performance

Refresh my memory, but didn't JC also fumble on a first down? On a play in which he held the ball for too long and didn't step up in the pocket like he was supposed to?
Suck and Luck
