The NFL is trying to win an interesting case

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

The NFL is trying to win an interesting case

Post by SkinsJock »

I think Freeman is overstating this a little but I do believe the NFL has a good chance to win this case.

The case was taken to the Supreme court after the NFL won a lower court ruling against this company in an effort to win an even bigger and more important (to them anyway) victory that would give the NFL a lot more power than it already has.

The other major sports are also hoping that the NFL wins this case - duh!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't the league being considered one entity, rather than 32 competing teams, make it more of a monopoly? And vastly raising ticket prices, and charging for regular free TV broadcasts would kill the popularity of the game IMO. Rival leagues would surely spring up, and follow the current model. Players would go to the new league, because they would offer better salaries, and the networks would rather do business under the current model as well. This would mean the end of the NFL, IMO. They would be foolishly shortsighted to change the current model that has served them so well for so many years.

I agree JSPB but I doubt the NFL is going to make any waves - I am sure they will continue to try and run the NFL in the most profitable way possible - be silly to kill the goose, so to speak.

Fact is, this suit was brought by the NFL, AFTER they won a lower court ruling against American Needle and they brought the case to the Supreme Court because their legal team said it was a good time (meaning - because it's a conservative Supreme Court) to nail this issue  The other professional sports entities will also be watching this with interest as it will have a huge effect on free agency
