How Good Must The QB Be?
We won it all with Joe Theisman, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien. Others did the same with Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and Eli Manning. I mention these names in particular because none of them is great.
How does JC compare to these guys? (I say favorably but seek comments)
Is he good enough if the rest of the team is excellent? (I think so)
Where do we need help more urgently than at QB? (I'm thinking O-line and a physical counterpart to Santana Moss)

I believe JC is an adequate QB.
He's not a game changer like Romo (much as I hate to admit that) or Peyton, or Brady.
I don't even think you have to surround him with superstar talent.
Give him receivers who can catch, a line that can block, and let him audible when he thinks it necessary and I think he'll turn some heads.
Jason did some of his best work in the no-huddle. The man is smart, trust him to make smart decisions on audibles and hot-reads.
Most importantly, trust him inside the Redzone. It drives me crazy when we get inside the 20 and stop throwing.
Are there better QBs? Certainly; but as Darth pointed out, you don't have to be a game-changer to win a SB ring.

The simple answer is that you do not need a good QB to win a Super Bowl.
We could win a Super Bowl with Campbell but it would take a lot of the other parts of the team to have a good year for that to happen. The QB does not really win the Super Bowl it takes a team effort and I do not see that as a possibility with this team, this year.
I have no problem with Campbell as our QB and I do not think he was entirely at fault for our offensive woes of last year. I just think he's not good enough and I think an offense has a lot more chance of success if you have a very good QB who actually makes the other players around him better
The order of importance in building a team is:
1) to find a really good QB
2) put together a very good offensive line and a very good defensive line
3) get the HC and coaches to ensure that all the pieces play together as a team not as a group of players.
In my opinion you can get by short term with a QB like Campbell and you might even win a Super Bowl if all the other parts play very well together BUT you can only have long term success if you have a very good QB who makes the offensive players around him better
You do not really need a good QB but you do need a good team and the leader of that team is generally the QB and our QB is not that good a leader let alone that good at making the other players around him any better
We look like we have a defense that we can continue to build around but we need a lot of help offensively and I'm not sure why we did not continue working on that this year - last year we acquired 3 guys that I hope will become starters but the offensive line is a very important part of the offense and I'm not sure that our line will be a huge improvement over last season, which it needs to be.
We added to our defense
but I did not see that same level of interest in upgrading the offensive line
I sure hope that Campbell is as improved this year as some here claim he is going to be

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

BS. I'm sorry. That's just bull. He NEVER hits him in stride, everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. He's not always pressured, that's blown way out of proportion.

they all had a line that afforded them time to brew coffee and read the newspaper before throwing to their recievers. The same line that opens up holes the size of SUV's for the running back to run thru.

CLL I respect your opinion on these here boards. But what you said about Campbell never hitting Moss in stride is BS. I recall Moss dropping a few passes last year that were in stride.
My point is JCam is not as bad as you always make him out to be. The success and failures of the team do not fall on one players shoulders. And the QB cannot block, run routes, nor catch his own passes.
So since you apparently don't believe in Campbell, what QB do you suppose would be "right" for the Redskins?
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

Correct but the stuff that he was responsible for is mediocre at best.

ANY QB that can score a respectable amount of TD's, whomever that may be.
You can't lump me in that group of people who dislike him personally, I don't care who is back there as long as they're slingin TD's.

Yeah a lot of his drops are shorter routes. Plus Jason hangs his WR's out to dry a lot IMO. I'm talking about deeps bombs that JC apologists swear is his niche when it's really not.

In all fairness Chris, how many attempts at deep balls does he get in 1 game? 1 or 2? Kind of hard to judge him on that don't you think?

Ugh...no, I don't think so. Sure the offense has changed but Moss's speed hasn't. If anything he's getting slower, so it should be getting easier.
But the attempts is another problem altogether. He should be making more, he has time contrary to popular belief. Watch the Saints game and see how many times he double pumps and misses the window.
He has time...sometimes and when he does have it he needs to capitalize off of it. That's his problem.

I think he was being limited by Zorn. By that I mean Zorn is telling him if Moss isn't open throw to a check. I am only guessing, that's what it looked like though. #1 Moss was being doubled and had a very hard time shaking that. #2 when he did get time it was in the first half of the season except for the rare occasion. #3 we had no other deep threat receiver (well maybe Thomas the last couple of games) I will say this though. JC has many areas he needs to improve but saying he isn't accurate on a deep ball really isn't fair with the issues he was dealing with. I did see Moss have to slow up to catch some of the earlier deep balls but again game speed and practice are two different things. So, if you do not have very many attempts its hard to Gauge it. This year might be the year to really tell if he has it or not. Lets hope other receivers can get them off Moss. Just my observation and opinion.

Add Terry Bradshaw. He was OK as a QB, but not the superstar you might think it takes to get 4 superbowl rings.

Jeeeeezzzuuuussss, how many more excuses can we make for Jason before the onus is placed on him equally. If it's not the line, its Jim, if it's not Jim, it's the WR's, when it's not the WR's its gravity....
Zorns causing Jason to underthrow the ball?
Thats my point, when its there he doesn't capitalize and thats the biggest gripe. Thats why he doesn't have a contract cus when he DOES have time he doesn't do anything to instill faith in him.
What's this have to do with him hitting Moss in stride?
It is fair because it's true and we've seen it. There are no issues except his accuracy on the deep ball. He has the length but no touch. He throws a flat ball on a rope, he's done so since he's been here.
Goodness gracious how many more years till he's had enough practice?
How many more years?
Oh! This year, awesome.
The other WR's have no say in this. When Moss has a secondary torched and Jason unthrows him, nobody but God and gravity effect that pass after it leaves Jasons hand...
So will God be the knew excuse for Jason, or the theory of relativity? Maybe Jason should play in the southern hemisphere...

This is too much to deal with. If you reread what I wrote it might answer some of your questions.
To make things simple if he only gets one attempt like he did in the second half of the season and he makes it then he is 100% If he doesn't then he is 0% So, we can say that JC sucks with the deep ball.

Clearly your sarcasm meter is broken. I don't care about anyone else but JC and Moss and since JC has been at the helm he can't hit him in stride consistently, regardless of the offense or HC... His deep ball has no accuracy to it. He'd have more TD's under his belt if he could hit Moss in stride cus that'd stop them from stalling in the redzone which they love to do.
But oh well, keep making excuses for Jason. He'll be gone soon enough.

In the last 25 years only a few teams have been able to win the Superbowl without a franchise QB at the helm. Montana, Young, Aikman, Big Ben, Brady, Favre, Elway, etc. etc. etc. Look up a list of the superbowl QB's and tell me it's not that important to have a star at the position.
(Eli Manning is a franchise player for the Giants, putting him in as the "fluke" like Dilfer is ridiculous.)
Dilfer, Rypien, Johnson and others did manage a superbowl victory but those players were veteran leaders who put together EXCELLENT seasons for their teams in the year they won the Superbowl. Let's not get all excited that you can win with anyone. To have a high powered offense you need a high powered QB.
