5th rnd pick

Post by Britskin »

So we have our 5th round pick back but not the CB that Gregg Williams is set on getting. What are the options in the draft? Is it a good year for CBs - are we likely to be able to get a quality CB that late or will Joe have to find another clever solution ?

I would hope with the 5th round pick they could find a young speed guy (defensive back or Linebacker) that could be a special teams ace. Someone that can be a Steve Tasker/Otis Wonsley type. The history of 5th round picks and later, when they've had him have not been too good.

Can't say I'm all that hyped about the return of our fifth round pick. :)

Well, I suppose there is the mathematical likelihood that a 5th round pick won't be as good as a 1st round pick... BUT, the skins have grabbed some pretty good players in the 5th round and below, including some pretty good DB's (Barry Wilburn and Vernon Dean). The list would include QB's Rypien, Humphries, and Frerotte, all taken below the 5th, Jeff Hall... yup, a Redskins pick, Darnerian McCants and Robert Royal (current players), and some historic names... Larry Brown, Dexter Manley, Monte Coleman, Rich Milot, Brian Mitchell, Frank Wychek (Oilers/Titans), Clint Didier (12th rd), Terry Orr, Kurt Gouveia, Raliegh McKenzie, and Kelvin Bryant. If you will notice, many in that list are now retired with 2 or 3 Superbowl Rings... Jewels CAN be found in the 5th round.

And, FINALLY, I am now SWINE!!!

We should have a little contest or something about what we'll do with our pick or who we'll draft with our 5th round pick. Everybody just take a shot at someone and see who gets it right. For my money, the TE from Ohio State, Ben Hartsomething or other.

With the 5th pick I'd like Demmario Williams LB from Nebraska. He is a good pass rusher and is very fast could be the special teams ace we could use. Or there is a DE from Deleware I think His name is Johnson, He played at Duke and transfered to Del. He's a good passrusher and has good size.

I'd love it if Williams lasts that long - but I'm pretty sure he'll be gone. I think a guy like Junior Lord might be interesting. He's a great athlete and could develop into any number of positions - WR, RB, KR, PR, S... very talented guy.

Or, we could take a talented O-lineman like Hadnot. Or a lesser known player like Tony Bua - ? By the fifth round - it's a real crap-shoot

Johnson could defenitely fall into our hands and the kid has a lot of promise and upside to him.
I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.

Trade the pick - Are there any RFA's out there that cost a 5th rounder in compensation?
