defensive line

Post by hailskins666 »

as of now, unless i missed something, its daniels at RDE, spelled by upshaw. griffin and haley most likely at DT, with noble spelling them depending on his return. and at LDE we've got wynn.
i don't know. i think griffin and daniels are both nice upgrades, but i still see a lot of the pass rush coming from elsewhere. as long as these guys can stop the run, we'll be fine. johnson(philly DC) presures with of the wall blitz schemes and hardly a line last year, i expect williams to do the same. :feedback;

I agree with that assesment, I think the Skins may have had somewhat different plans for the d-line prior to Kearse signing with Philly but will now rely more on the linebackers to blitz.

the way the skins continue to court linebackers, it seems as if they're content with the dline they have, and plan on bringing pressure with fast backers (such as washington or arrington) in strategic places, or maybe large, fast, hard hitting rookie safeties from miami.

There's a good story on redskins.com today talking about Gregg Williams defense and how he likes to attack the QB with his "linebacker-friendly" defense.

I totally agree. The Line is fine especailly when you read the Redskins.com article about moving Arrington to the weak side to provide a pass rush. It will be the linebackers getting the sacks and the d-line will be resposible (more so) for stopping the run and getting at the other teams running back.

The Skins will like get Taylor in the draft because I have not heard anything about them resigning Iffy. Those that want Winslow Jr. are misguided. He is a weapon but the Skins have a Pro Bowl back and wide out with a solid second WR in Rod, that is enough weapons for any offense.

If the Skins trade down their pick I could see them useing one on Courtney Watson (2nd-3rd round) a fast Linebacker to fit into Gregg's system.

What's the deal with Darrell Russell? Any chance he is coming back next year? I read something today about the Bucs trying to sign him.

yeah but you still want a front four that can pressure the QB because its risky to continuosly take the LB's and safties out of coverage on Blitzes, it would be nice to get at least one end that is good at rushing the passer as well as another solid tackle for the rotation

While a front four that would bring consistent pressure on the QB with 7 back in coverage would be ideal, I have to ask myself is that the exception or the rule? Really, I can only name a handful of teams (if that) that I could say are able to do that with the personnel they have on hand. Most teams have to bring someone up to put pressure on a QB consistently.

That being said, I can't be mad at the acquisition of (primarily) run-stoppers for the line. After the way we performed against the run last season (esp. when Troy HandsO'Brick did his Jim Brown imitation, grr), I would consider that more of an issue for the D-Line than the pass rush...
Two formation shifts, one man in motion, and a counter trey...those were the days...

We should do like New England and play Man and then zone all in one play. :wink: That will get the QB sacked or picked at will.
