What will be success this season?
Now that we are several days into free agency and some of Joe`s significant moves have already been made, I`m wondering what other Redskins fans would think of as success for Joe`s first season back. Obviously, we`d like to go and win the whole Show but being realistic.and allowing for Joe, the coaching staff and the new players to settle in and gell I`d be really happy with a play-off place this year. Perhaps even just a winning season. What do you think? Are you looking higher?

The only success I think they need is to start believing in themselves. I know it sounds corny, but I just want to see them play like they know they can win a game, instead of playing like they're trying to keep from losing. That was an attitude put in since the Norv Turner days, and Gibbs will change that.
Touchdown, Washington Redskins...
Success for me is defined in one word, stability. The one thing that our beloved burgundy and gold has suffered from since Gibbs' departure is a lack of stabilty. Changes in management, changes in coaching staff, and changes in personnel. I realize that the NFL of coach Gibbs' past is a vastly different one from the one that he enters now, but if he can establish stability and consistency, the wins will come.
As much as it stings to hear Champ say that there is a lack of structure and organization during his tenure here, he is right. When you think about it, I believe that Jon Jansen is one of the longest tenured players now, and I believe that he has been around about 5 years. That says it all.

Totally agree. Schotty was able to establish that type of control when he was here for the one year and the team went 8-8. If Gibbs can do the same he should at least match that.
Also David Terrell is the other Skins vet being with the team since 1999.

Personally I was disappointed when Schotty was booted out to make way for SS, and especially with the benefit of hindsight!. Schotty was (is) a proven coach and was turning the team around, having also had a 0-5 start to finish 8-8 (ring any bells?).
I would hate to see us with a losing record this season, given what we have on board now. If we only finish 8-8 or even less, hey, it is a stepping stone to greater things. Privately I am expecting a winning season, and if that is good enough for the playoffs, then that would be fantastic. Lets face it, we CAN'T be worse than 12-20 over the last two years!

First of all, Britskin, welcome to Hogs.net. You're gonna love it here.
Now, these are all nice answers, and I concur with each and every one of 'em. Of course, we need to remember who our owner is, and how he measures success. Right now, he's in his shining moment, his day in the sun. He has Gibbs back, the fans are loving Danny, he's got some pieces to the puzzle. The big thing here is, just beat Dallas.

I know who we're playing this year. That's been posted already; it's the order in which we play them that's still undetermined. It isn't going to be a cakewalk for us, to be sure.
If nothing else, here's what you can absolutely expect. If we trail at halftime, in any game, we won't lose by making the same mistakes we made in the first half. Joe is just the master of the halftime adjustment. All he really needs is for the boys on the field to do their jobs, (no freelancing) and the rest will take care of itself.
No more lame-ass bbq's at the Spurrier residence to "jell" and listen to Wuerfful read his favorite scriptures. It takes a whole lot more than that.It takes confidence in one another to build up a chemistry, and I think that's why Joe wants "character guys". He wants people who know that they need to be where they're supposed to be so that everybody else can stick to what they're supposed to be doing.
If he can pull that off, the sky's the limit for this team.
Keep your fingers crossed.

my take on joe gibbs success for the upcoming season will be focused toward getting the players to buy into his system. sell everyone on what he wants them to do as a team to be sucessful as a team and the rest will take care of itself.
being head strong is the most important thing.everybody will be involved. a winning record is in store with possible playoff implications. i,m ready!

One way to gauge the success of this team, will be to see if any of the following improve from last year. If they do, then there's no telling what we can accomplish. It'll take time, but if we improve on all of the following, the wins will come sooner or later
Stupid false start penalties
Audibles with less than 5 seconds on the clock
Miscommunication between the huddle and the sideline
People laughing and joking in the locker room AFTER A LOSS!
Field Position
Crowd noise
How many times we're faced with a 2nd and 16 or 3rd an 18.
The whole team playing from start to finish, giving everything they have.
Our coach working and studying diligently to prepare for a game, instead of planning his next golfing outing after the season ends.
The players sounding optimistic about the future
Opposing teams commending the Redskins on their performance

I agree with all of the above so I won't bother repeating it!
We weren't far off being a decent side last year despite all the coaching issues so it shouldn't take too much to get an even record.
With the changes we have made I would hope for a winning record and a shot at the playoffs beyond week 12! I hope for 9 or 10 wins. If we achieve that, we can all say "I told you so" to our resident Jet! You know he'll say it to us if we don't improve.
