Your First Game

Post by Justice Hog »

For those of you that have attended any Redskins home games, do you remember how you felt when you attended your very first one?

For me, it was December 24, 1995 against Carolina at RFK. These were the days of the Frerotte/Shuler debate and on this day, Frerrote was at the helm. Having seen the Skins only in Philly prior to this game, it is hard for me to adequately explain the excitement and emotions I had even just arriving to the stadium that day! Once inside, I felt so jittery with excitement, it's hard to describe.

I was about to see the team I love....LIVE!!!

The Redskins pulled out a 20-17 win to finish that season 6-10 in Norv Turner's 2nd year as head coach.

One of the things I loved about that game is that since it was on December 24th....at half-time, the team put a big Christmas tree in the center of the field with presents all around it. Kids were lined up on each goal line. With the blow of a whistle, they were off to the races to claim their present(s)!! It was really cool.

I just wanted to share this because...for those of you loyal fans that have never attended a game, this is something you simply must do.

....and I will make this pledge, if you seriously want to attend a game this year with me for the 1st time, "PM" me and tell me about yourself and why you would like to go. I will then pick a person from those who contact me...and I'll give them my 2nd ticket for one of the games this year. (You didn't expect me to give up both of my tickets, did you?) We can then meet there...or make other arrangements.

One rule: You must have never attended a home game before!

Now, for the rest of you: Tell us about the first time you attended a Skins home game!

My first game was September 3, 2000. a 20-17 win over the Carolina Panthers. Dan Snyder had just completed his first big shopping spree and Who let the dogs out played out of the speakers all day. My father and I just got season tickets after being redskin fans for over 20 years. Growing up in New Jersey you only got to see about 6-8 games a year on T.V., so this was a dream come true. I remeber sitting in our seats for the first time saying to my father it doesn't get any better than this. We used to say I would still come to the games even on my death bed. well later that year my father was diagnosed with cancer, we made it to very game that year. We were very lucky he survived his illness and we still attend the games. Driving three and a half hours each way seems worth it after you allmost lost your father. The games mean more to us now that we can still go together.
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

Justice Hog,

That was the first game I attended in person also. I remember the stadium was half-empty. The first half we had seats in the upper deck, but spent as much time scouting good seats as we did watching the game. At half time, we left our seats and made our way down to 4 empty seats in the 2nd row behind the end zone, so I don't quite remember the half time show. In the 3rd quarter, Stanley Richard made a great play to break up a sure TD for the Panthers, and I yelled "You the man Sheriff" and pointed at him, then he turned around and pointed back at me. At the time, that was the greatest thing that had ever happened to me. I have since been to about 10 games and was lucky enough to have season tickets for the 1999 season when we made the playoffs.

I think it was in 1992 against the Falcons. I think it was "The Seat Cushion Game". I know it was against the Falcons and on a cloudy day at RFK.

My very first game was in 1989. It was such a long time I cant remember who the Redskins played. But as a season ticket holder since 1989 and now being in college I miss going to the games. Despite being college luckily the last 2 years I did not miss the Dallas game because I have been on Break. Hail to the Redskins!

first game

Post by funbunchfever »

first and only game so far...

1991 vs. the Browns

Monk set a record in the game (Most receiving TD's I think?)

He also made a great TD catch in the corner of the endzone. I sat in the small middle section at RFK. It was rockin!

Ricky Ervins (I think that's his name) also had a monster day rushing the ball. It was a blowout so Byner took a rest.
It's just a game.

My first game was the 1999 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys at Fed Ex Field. Record crowd was there and saw the Skins blow a 21-point 4th QTR lead and then Aikman to Rocket Ismail for the 71-yard game winning TD in OT...

Skins won 10 of their next 15 to take the division title and make the playoffs...

Sadly, I was too drunk to remember. I was in D.C. for a conference, and I got tix to the MNF game againts the 49ers. Gus Frerotte started, but Trent Green came on in the first quarter. We got blown out 38-7 or something like that. Good thing I was so thrashed!! Now, I have season tix. YESSSS!!!!!!

that was my first home game. When I lived in L.A., I saw them play the Chargers and the Rams back in the early 80's.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

JH,

Since this is my first year with season tix, and since I've got two tickets, I'll match your offer.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

My first game was November 1981 vs Detroit. My father brought me to my first game prior to having surgery to lift the spirits. It's a vivid memory I will never forget. I'll never forget being 7 years old walking down the ramps at RFK after the game let out. I've been to many games since but that one tops it!

Cheers!!!

My first, and only, live game was about the Fall of 1965 against the Cardinals. Otto Graham was angry with Sonny, so they started our U of Maryland hero, Dick Shiner...who never had a chance.

Graham, recall, had a team of Sonny throwing to Charlie Taylor, Jerry Smith, and Bobby Mitchell. I mean that was the whole team: no offensive line, no running back, no defense of any sort.

We sat in the uppder deck watching the Cards plow holes that looked almost illegal...Johnny Roland, and, maybe John David Crow just ate the Skins pseudo-defense.

Ugh. Ugh.

hey guys. been lurking around here for a while so i thought i would share my first trip to a skins game. i live in NC and my girlfriend is from Alexandria so we had to go see her family. we had a friend who had a coworker that had season tickets. so the night before we left for DC (we worked at a bar) a guy came up to me and gave me an envelope and said have fun, i did not know who this guy was so i was like OK. i looked inside and we had 2 tickets to the redskins/tb game in 2000!!! oh and by the way the tickets were on the 40 yard line 4 rows up behind the skins bench!!! i almost crapped my pants lol. when we got there i was speechless, the most amasing thing i have ever felt. the skins won the game in ot and it was incredible. i had no idea she was planning this but apparently she had this planned out for a while. god what a great women!!! anyway sorry so long but just wanted to share.

I sold my house to attend my first game.

Flew over from the UK in 1999 (the last time we played the play-offs) and saw the Skins play Buffalo and the Giants at home and Philly away.

They beat the Giants when Marco Coleman recovered a fumble and ran it in for 6 in the game that saw Stephen Davis hit the 1,000 yard mark for the season for the first time in his career.

Against the Bills, Flutie beat us rolling out on a bootleg and then running into the corner of the end zone.

At Philly, which was a really *sh$t* place to watch a game (both the stinking Vet and the stinking fans) Westbrook caught a HUGE downfield heave from Brad on the 1st or second play setting up first and goal. Davis ran it in for 6-0 with about 3 minutes on the clock.... and we LOST.

Two Eagles fans had a fight in front of me - AND I MEAN A REAL FIST FIGHT over whether Watters or Staley should be starting at tailback (I think it was Staley).

Anyway, the trip was rounded off by getting to meet Gary Clark and get his autograph.

Funny how things work out though. My brother (a Steelers fan) now lives in DC so hopefully I will be able to get over and see a JOE GIBBS team live!!!
