Mike Nolan Fired!!!

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Mike Nolan Fired!!!

49ers make Nolan latest coaching casualty

In a wild year, yet another head coach has been fired midseason.

Mike Nolan has confirmed to FOX Sports that he has been fired by the San Francisco 49ers. Nolan was informed by team brass late Monday afternoon.

It is assumed that current defensive coordinator Mike Singletary will assume Nolan's coaching duties. There were reports earlier today that Nolan would be fired after the team's next game Sunday against Seattle, but ownership instead decided not to wait.

Nolan was in the midst of his fourth season in San Francisco and leaves with an 18-37 record. The 49ers appeared to have hope after a 7-9 season in 2006 — the team's best record in three years at the time.

But the Niners sank to 5-11 last season as Nolan and his one-time franchise quarterback Alex Smith reportedly had a falling out, with the Niners' offense ranking as the league's worst in 2007.

This season's 49ers began with mild hope after beginning the year 2-1, but local media pressure increased during a three-game losing streak.

Good for Mike - one of the good guys. Hope he does well.

I have been hearing that they are already in talks about making him the head coach. I don't agree with this. I think they should allow him to take over for the rest of the season and see how well the team goes from there. Who knows maybe they might end up in the same situation the Rams have ended up so far since Haslett has taken over 2-0.

After the job Nolan did with the Skins D, you have to wonder what SF saw in him in the first place.

He did wear nice siuts, though.

Just remember... he wasn't the first unsuccessful DC coaching cast-off <cough> norval <cough> hired as a HC in the Bay Area.

Seems they've become quite acustomed to desperate hires...

Though, I so like Mike Singletary, that I really hope he is successful. When I think of the prototype modern Mike LB, I always see his eyes, just before the snap, scanning... man, he was the picture of defensive intensity! In my humble opinion, he was the best defensive leader of his era. I truly believe that, without Mike Singletary, the Bears were little more than an average defensive team. With Mike Singletary, they were truly scary... (until Joe Gibbs figured out the 46, anyway).

The EYES... this man was INTENSE... and, he still is!

I'd atke him over Lovie any day. Man, you'd be scared NOT to follow Singletary into battle...
