yea, i think since he's got it now, he would have to surrender it for portis to be able to wear it.

Who's getting paid the big bucks here? Who will be more valuable to the team in the long run? Portis gets the #!

Ohalete has been a trooper, BUT, if Clinton wants that number, I'LL take it off Ifay's back for him.

Brunell took #8 from Hasselbeck.

I bet Portis had the number written into his contract. Ohalete would look good in 29...

Iffy's a Free Agent, right?? Seems like you give up "dibs" on a number if yo don't have a signed contract with a team....

Iffy is restricted FA, we may keep him.

I'd rather Portis wore 38, I see 26 as a DB's number not a tailback's.

He probably will keep 26 though.

Springs has always worn 24 and I'm sure he still will.

You stole that right from me, CMORT is #20...

And Ohelate is the incumbent player, so he would have to surrender the number to Portis. Remember when Gilbert Arenas was paid 64 million to be a Wizard, and league minimum guy Brendan Haywood had the option to keep the double zero or give it up. Same deal here, I think Portis will wear 29, because Todd Franz shouldn't be hear next year, and it is a 6 flipped upside down.

Shawn Springs will be #24, he'll stick with Champ's number...

lol, where do you get THAT from? This isn't a videogame where the player only takes a number close to his, he can take a brand new number and create his own legacy. Portis wore #28 in college, he of course can't have that one here... so why not #38? That's my hunch since 26 is taken, and 36 has been worn by a Redskins Super Bowl running back right? (Timmy Smith?)

do all of your 53 posts reek of jerkitude?

Anyway, if Portis wants 26... he'll probably have to buy it from Iffy, but there's a better than average chance that he takes a different #. #26 doesn't have ANY significance to Portis. He changed his number from 28 to 26 when he joined the Broncos so really the number means nothing to him. But whatever, despite what you seem to think you really have NO more idea than anyone else what jersey we'll see at the press conference... so why don't you stow it?
