The more I think about it, the less I can find a game more awesome than Sunday's in my football-watching life. Keep in mind that the last time we won a Super Bowl, I was three years old. I really don't think there's been such a combination of mind-blowingly awesome stuff all packed into one game since I first gained cognition of football was.
Most of this is being talked about already, but I'm going to conglomerate the top 20 reasons I can think of:
1. We beat Dallas.
2. In Dallas.
3. It was the last game at Texas Stadium.
4. Rookie Redskins coaches always lose in their first game to Dallas.
5. Santana owned them again.
6. JC asserted himself as a bigtime quarterback.
7. Romo couldn't beat us with both starting cornerbacks injured.
8. Everyone was falling all over themselves to call Dallas a juggernaut beforehand, making them the consensus "best" team in the league.
9. The win has led to two consecutive days of "What's wrong in Dallas?" banter (Just now on Jim Rome, they played the video of TO crying after last year's playoffs. This is great.)
10. It caused TO's inevitable explosion, even though he saw the ball on every third (!) play.
11. Clinton Portis, 120+ yards.
12. Two of the great Redskins quotes I will never, ever forget: "We play physical, we win!" and "Hip hip, hooray!"
13. Jerry Jones dismayed on the sideline.
14. The triumphant return of Rock Jansen.
15. Chris Horton on "buzz" coverage picking off Romo.
16. Catapulting the Redskins into the elite of the league (at least for the first month) and having people finally start respecting us.
17. Tank Johnson losing his cool about Rock Cartwright "disrespecting the star" after the game (aka, looking up at the roof and taking in the scene), more sparks in the inevitable fire of Dallas's character issues. (PS: Can someone invite Pacman to Hooters and really set this thing in motion?)
18. ESPN commentators describing Romo as "surprised" to see TO's tirade after the game, then spending a few minutes talking about how it might ruin his career because he's too young to handle it.
19. Marion Barber, career stats vs. Redskins: 54 carries for 177 yards and 1 touchdown in 6 games. (3.3 yards per carry, 29.5 yards per game)
20. Five of seven. The tide's finally turning.
And on top of that, the Eagles lost in front of everybody to Kyle Orton's Neckbeard. It's a great day to be a Redskins fan.
But the best? Your thoughts? (And keep in mind, my football-coherent life. Obviously Super Bowls and such would be better)
A knee-jerk reaction.
