1. Jim Zorns play calling was aweful....running the ball with 4 mins left in a 2 score game?

2. Was it JC or Mark Brunell playing tonight? 3rd nd 15 and throwing dumpoffs? wow.......

3. OLINE = Aweful.....Rabach and Heyer getting blown up alllll night

4. Defense - not too bad, coulda been alot worse

5. Portis - Too much dancing before the line of scrimmage

6. No pass rush at all - JASON TAYLOR, WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU

The defense was fine. The Giants scored 16 points, what more do you want.

The offense was atrocious, simply atrocious. Joe Gibbs was calling our plays today. Run, Run, Pass 8 yards short of the 1st down marker.

Truely a ridiculous game. The Redskins played like they had the 16 - 7 lead with 5 minues to go and then go to the hurry up offense with less than 50 seconds to go. What happened to throwing to the sideline to stop the clock type plays? Why run, run , run and eat up the clock when you are 9 points behind?

Campbell still looks like he does not have a clue as to what is going on.

It's painfully obvious that Jim Zorn has no clue what he is doing. The Redskins didn't even try to win the game. Unless that changes, this is going to be the longest Redskins season in recent memory.

I am shocked we came out so rough. We didn't look bad the 4th quarter but we have to do a better job of making good decisions. We didn't do that tonight.

This game was pretty bad. They got spanked bad.

Off the top:

Jason's decision making was atrocious and slow. 1st down? What 1st down marker?

Portis - Awesome

WR's - Garbage. Moss dropping passes. ARE off sides.

TE - Poor Cooley. Not even allowded to partake.

Line - They played average. Maybe a mistake to put Heyer in. They have to live with it and let him grow now.

Play calling - Joe Gibbs 2.0

Defense - Great job holding them to 16 points.

Line - Interior cannot pass rush, outside is good. Jason needs to heal up. Andre did great.

Linebackers - Good

DB's - Good considering they lost springs and smoot.

Safeties - Mediocre. Reed won't make it through the season.

The poor defense held up despite being on the field alllll game long.

There are times, when the most difficult task in the world is to remain optimistic.

It clearly appeared that the game has yet to slow down for poor Jason. Yes, he was pressured... but he was also doing a lot of unneeded double pumping and hesitating.

That was just terrible. This team's going to finish 6-10 if something drastic doesn't happen right now. The gap should've been even bigger - the Giants really seemed to let up in the second half, esp. on D. Where were the blitzs that were stuffing the Redskins O in the first half? They seemed to go into prevent D. in the second half, and yet our offense still failed to score. No way this 'skins team returns to the playoffs, esp. in the NFC East.

is there a chance we see Colt at all this year??? not saying this will happen, not saying the sky is falling, not asking for it, etc., but if things don't pan out, do we see Colt before TC???

Before the 12 straight passes to end the game, the Redskins were at 24 runs, 15 passes -- all being down by two scores most of the time.

Who doesn't Zorn trust?

Campbell (holds ball too long, locks in on one receiver way too much)?

The O-line (can't block a chorus line, much less an NFL defense)?

Himself (realizes he's in over his head -- at least in Game 1)?

All of the above?

The Republicans (because he knew NBC wanted to get out in time to show the McCain speech)?

Some advice to Redskins fans: avoid ESPN and the Washington Post sports section for a few days, they only make the losses tougher because they relish in them

first game opinions

Post by SkinsJock »

We are not as bad as we looked and we are certainly not as good as we should be.

The defense played reasonably well considering the defensive backfield situation. We look like we will have a chance at having a decent defense.

The offense will continue to be a work in progress. I think Portis will have a really great year - this guy is special. We have to get Campbell to be quicker - in my opinion he has to make reads a lot quicker and work on his release. I have always been concerned about how he has handled the speed of the game and he is not getting any better. Some have it and he does not look good. That being said we are a lot better off with him than any other option at QB - we will need to add a big time QB sooner rather than later. Collins is a back up and Brennan is years away.

Zorn needs to get both Cooley and Portis more involved in the passing game.

all in all we are not a bad team and we showed we could be a decent team. About what we expected but it would have been nice to not make so many killer penalties on offense - btw, am I the only one that saw a face mask not get called against a giant lineman on Campbell very early in the game?

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

As far as the game goes, I don't know what I hated more...Zorn's play calling or Campbell's terrible play...

I think I'm going with a tie. Zorn was ahead until Campbell threw that last pass short...take a chance man! The game is on the line...force it into coverage if you have to, but get the first down!!!

I definitely have NOT given up on Campbell but his time is truly running short. If he does not show progress by week 4, I wouldn't be shocked to see a change.

My only issue with that is Todd won't be much better if at all.

I agree with everything you say, except the QB situation... i agree with your opinion on JC, he is too slow to make decisions... as for another QB though, i would like to see Cold continue to learn the O... you cannot bring someome else in to this O, unless it is Matt Hassleback... i think if JC does not pan out, Colt is familiar with the WC Offense, and i would like to see him get a chance before we bring someone else in... meaning, back-up this year, and unless JC gets us to the playoffs, it is open competition for next year....

Awful, all the way around, however the kick return game and Rock Cartwright was the only thing I though the team did well at. 0-1, been here before, lets go home and bring on the Saints!!!!!

I gotta be honest. After watching the first quarter, I was pretty happy to finish that game 16-7. I was pretty sure it was going to be 52-0 or something ridiculous like that.

Hang in there boys (and girls).

Several points:

1. Chris Cooley did not block well at all tonight. There were several plays where he just missed blocks. Zorn needs to recognize that if Davis is a better blocker on run plays than Cooley, then play Davis on run plays.

2. The running game. I don't understand why they are consistently running Portis up the middle instead of on the edges?

3. The defense needs to tighten up but they are not horrible.

4. What we are seeing now is the result of too much turnover and confusion with this organization. This team needs stability, continuity and someone who can coach on the fly. If Zorn and his staff are the guy's, then give them a chance to develop a culture where there is stability, continuity and coaching that can adjust on the fly. This revolving door of coaches and systems is killing this team. Yes, these guys are pro's but even pro's need stability, continuity and adjustments. Portis had okay numbers tonight but there were to many times where he was stopped behind the line.

5. It's one game so what? I will be worried if Zorn and his staff can't improve or show improvement next week.

6. Don't take the media too seriously now after one game.....

Actually, it's not. Homers hate the media for reporting neg. stuff, but this team has lost more than it's won over the past 5+ years, so what do you expect?!? Even when the team's been good, it's never been consistently good - we followed our best season in a long time (2005) with another stinker (5-11 in 2006). You can't put lipstick on a pig and call it a beauty queen.
