The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement in principle with the Oakland Raiders to trade cornerback DeAngelo Hall for the Raiders' second-round pick in the 2008 draft, pending the Raiders finalizing a contract with Hall, according to a source close to the Falcons.
While a Raiders source said Hall and the team are nearing an agreement on a contract, the source close to Hall said there is "still a lot of work to get it done."
The Raiders source said the deal is expected to pay Hall just below what Asante Samuel signed with the Eagles. Samuel signed a six-year deal worth a reported $57 million, with $20 million guaranteed.
Hall is a former first-rounder taken with the eighth pick in the 2004 draft.
A 2nd Rounder??? Why couldn't we afford that? Especially since his deal is going to be less than Samuel's...We had enough cap room to make this deal. We are probably going to use our 2nd rounder on a CB anyway...why not get a proven guy like Hall. He's the answer to our Champ Bailey void and he went to VT, just a couple hours away from Landover. I just wish we could at least make one signing/trade. I am bored!
Falcons CB DeAngelo Hall refuted an ESPN report that he will be traded to the Raiders.
"Somebody's throwing something out there," Hall told the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Saturday afternoon. Neither Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff nor Hall's agent have returned phone calls.
"I will not be a part of another losing team for another year," Hall told the AJC in December. "I've got to do what I've got to do. No matter who hates me."
Then why would he even think about going to the Raiders. What an idiot, the article also says that the Cowboys, Redskins, Jaguars, and the Giants have inquired about him.

We don't want this guy...too much money and too much mouth.
He'll want max money and while he's very good, we have to be fiscally responsible here. This isn't MLB where the 2-3 richest guys get all the players...you have to figure out which 10-12 guys will get the big bucks on your team and I'm glad Danny and Vinnie decided he wasn't one of the 12.
Let's take a CB in the 2nd round, pay him 2nd round money, put him at nickle or dime, grow him and be happy!

John Clayton said today that the Raiders are still $19 million over the cap, even before any contract is extended to Hall. It looks like they're gonna have to do some major cap work. They franchised Nnamdi Asomugha, their other starting corner, so they could have a lot of cash tied up in CB's.

I think I saw somewhere that they un-franchised Asomugha. I don't remember where though.

If he signed the tender, it doesn't save them... and if they "unfranchised" him, I have to imagine that he got a pretty hefty contract anyway.
