More reworking...yea!

Post by spudstr04 »

Redskins reworked T Chris Samuels' contract, clearing up around $3.2 million in cap space.

The team has now restructured Samuels and T Jon Jansen, effectively freeing up about $6.3 million and getting them about $3 million under the 2008 cap number.

I think it's great that our core Skins are showing they'll do whatever it takes to win and keep this team together and to make them better.

Looks like these guys might be buying into Zorn, if they are willing to restructure. Hasn't Samuels redone his deal like 2-3 times already? Talk about a cornerstone on this team.

Not to diminish what Samuels has done, but I don't believe that the players actually lose any money by restructuring. They aren't taking a pay cut or anything like that.

It's actually a benefit to them because they convert salary to bonus money, so they get it up front. Salary is not guaranteed...

I agree, it's a win win to restructure. Team gets cap space, player gets money turned to bonus, and or deferred money down the road(retirement after football etc..). Last time I checked he was making about 9 million a year, top salary on the skins for awhile... maybe not now but he's in the top 3 ..... Now we need to get Daniels, Griffin, and few more to follow suit.

We might not be in "cap hell" but we definitely don't have very much room under the cap to go after free agents. Asante Samuel and Briggs (not that I'm saying we should sign them, just using them as an example) are likely out of our price range. So we don't have to cut people because of our cap situation, but we also don't have the type of flexibility that teams like the Giants and 49ers have. It's not too bad of a situation when you are the defending Super Bowl champions are you have the ability to go after a player like DeAngelo Hall.
