2008 Africa Cup of Nations

Post by Redskin in Canada »

The 2008 Soccer Africa Cup of Nations has a whole continent's attention and watching some of the best football any fans in the world can watch:

Ivory Coast is playing as well as any team has played in any tournament in Africa's history . Certainly a threat for any opponents in the next World Cup.

Anybody following it?

Yes, I am.

Semi-Finals start today with Ivory Coast v. Egypt. Cameroon plays against the hosts Ghana tomorrow.

My sentimental favourite team was eliminated in the quarter finals, so I am just enjoying the remaining games. Sounds familiar eh?

Have to admit I've not been watching this tournament. That's my loss, because the coverage has been great on the BBC, and I know there have been some fantastic goals. But what little of the tournament that I have seen didn't provide much entertainment. Maybe I've become too used to the crash, bang, wallop style of the English Premiership to enjoy the more laid back approach that these teams have been showing. Whatever the reason, it's left me cold.

Perhaps I'm just too excited about our new Italian coach over here in England. :)

We definitely had a fantastic semi-final game beween Cameroon and the Ghana hosts. World Cup uqality game! A great battle.

English menhave always looked better in Italian suits, if you ask the Italians.

Your new coach has a lot of really good experience at the top level of the Spanish and Italian leagues. He is a smart guy but for some reason the combination of Italian and English football styles do not necessarily make it an automatic click. He has no experience coaching English teams.

Who was to say? The continent (style) finally conquers England!

Perhaps... but you probably just made their list of public enemies... In La Cote d"Ivoire, it is illegal to use the English version of the name...

Downright friendly, those Ivorians...

Yep, it sounds as friendly as a Presidential Campaign speech.

Living proof that chauvinistic politicians are not confined to our own shores.
